Where did you get this information? I know someone whose score was in the 90s and he got into Wellington.

I think Yorkshire Lass has used the lowest scores that they've heard, there may have been lower scores that they haven't heard about being accepted. Hopefully the schools will announce soon the scores they accepted this year. :)

  • I took the information I posted from statistics stated on an end of term newsletter which came home from a local primary school. Hope that helps.

Hi Veggie Northern Ireland, her school gives her homework for over the weekend, which we mark and then she takes it into class on a Monday. We would go over some of the questions she has got wrong on the practice papers which she has done in class with her during the week. So not too much extra at home, I don't want her to get fed up with it all!
  • My friend's child is sitting the exam in November. They have moved here from Eastern Europe, he's a really bright child with excellent spoken English. He's scoring very high in the maths part, but he's only been speaking English for 18 months so while he's got the grammar basics all worked out, when he's faced with prose he is struggling.

Do schools need to see high marks in both sections or would a child get through if his maths is brilliant and his written Engish is just ok?

I'd appreciate any input or direction.

He may get to bypass the test. I think other criteria are used if a child is less than 2 years here. Contact the post primary school of interest and ask about it. I came across this before but it's a few years ago so I can't remember the details.

For AQE, have a read with your friend at:

    http://aqe.org.uk/how-to-enter/access-arrangements/

and in particular the guidance notes linked from:
Access arrangements may also apply to candidates whose first language is neither English nor Irish and who have spent less than three years in the United Kingdom and/or Ireland before September 2014. If your child falls into this category, please tick the box labelled ‘Yes’ in the Application Form. You can download further guidance notes here.
As you will see once you have, depending on circumstances, it may be possible to arrange that the child is given extra time on the paper and/or the use of jpeg;base64,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a bi-lingual translation dictionary.

  • Thanks for your reply,
She was aware of the dictionary part, but when it comes to prose, the literal translation in a dictionary is not always what the writer means (does that make sense!?)

We'll just have to keep her fingers crossed that he gets tests that he understands.

Good luck to all youngsters studying for it.

There's probably an argument for a special circumstances admission in a case like that anyway... Especially if there's a noticeable disparity between the math and English portions of the test.
But only worth pursuing if the normal route doesn't work out.

1st daughter doing AQA/GL November, 2 practice papers a week in school and her scores are all over the place. I am glad to see here that other parents are finding the same. DD is in top band of year but results not reflecting this. :-( nervous as this year a lot of children didn't get 1st or 2nd school choices and a few didn't get placed at all!!!
