Verbal offer rescinded

I'm very shocked and disappointed to have just been informed I have been unsuccessful in my application after receiving a verbal offer from a company on Monday of which I accepted. I was told to expect an email confirming my package this week.

Today on the call, the company confirmed she accidentally phoned me instead of the other candidate on Monday.

Can anyone advise my options please?

    What options, you didn't get the job so exactly the same situation if they had told you Monday or if you hadn't had the interview at all.

    I was offered the job verbally and accepted. Could this potentially be a breach of contract?

    No.

    The way forward is to accept it as a mistake and move on.

    Not a breach of contract. most contracts to be valid have two elements, one is that both parties agree, the second one is that something of value (e.g. salary) is exchanged.

    "The employer has confirmed that the job offer was unconditional, or the applicant has met all conditions"

    This doesn't appear to be breach of contract, no contract appears to have been formed. However assuming you could prove this what would you actually want as an outcome?

    Was it? Very rare for companies to offer this, they normally state it'll be based on satisfactory references at least.

    Do you have it in writing that it was unconditional? It may be hard to prove if only verbal.

    Until you have an offer in writing you have no offer. Verbal offers count for little.



    Hopefully you didn't hand your notice in yet?

    What do you expect to gain by making a fuss?
    They have one job, they decided to offer to their preferred candidate, which wasn't you.
    The chances of them rescinding and offering it to you again are non-existent and even if they did would you really want to work somewhere knowing they didn't want you and couid legitimately end your employment in the first day with no comeback.
    So I'll ask again - what do you think should happen in reality?
    I'd go for accepting the mistake and moving on.
    All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

    Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
