Travel insurance - son and Nan query

We are planning a week in Turkey. My partner and I are on 1 booking. Son and Nan on another although we're all going together.

I am trying to get single trip cover for my fit healthy son but all the comparison sites are asking for pre existing medical conditions of the party.

Nan has very comprehensive, expensive annual policy as she had breast cancer over 5 yrs ago and is now well. She takes statins etc but travels regularly (has holiday home abroad)

We have a bank policy with my conditions declared.

Struggling to even input the data on comparison sites.

Has anyone experienced similar and how did you resolve it? Thank you in advance.

You need to supply this information as medical problems affecting one member of the party could result in the trip being cancelled, which insurance would generally cover.

You have the option of not declaring them but then his portion of the trip isn't covered should the above happen.

Worth looking at annual policies as they won't ask for details about any specific trip.
  • Not sure if I have missed something here - but if Nan has her own policy then the son needs a separate policy - surely that application will not ask for anybody else's medical conditions.

If anything happens Nan claims on her policy and the son on his.

They do not have to have a joint policy for a joint booking.

Not quite that simple: some policies do ask basically whether anyone else is travelling whose medical conditions might necessitate cancellation or curtailment, or if there's anyone at home whose medical condition might stop you travelling.

Ages ago I was due to have surgery at the same time as DS1 was going to France. He'd have gone anyway and not come back early even if my surgery had gone badly, but we chose a policy which specifically excluded anything to do with me preventing him travelling.

  • Thanks everyone. Even though the policy will be for a single traveller,comparison sites ask if anyone he's travelling with have pre existing medical conditions. It also asks this for a multi trip policy - although who you may be going with in the future is often unknown. I can't put him on ours as he's 22. I need to speak to someone but no phone numbers !!!55357;!!!56865;

    No phone numbers ?

All my insurers have phone numbers

Have you clicked through to the insurers page to see athe number or go old fashioned and use a high street broker or gooogle insurers
  • Sorry, I meant the comparison sites, but I agree. It looks likes I'll have to do the comparisons myself by picking insures and talking to them individually.

Given the circumstances it may be better to look at specialist insurance companies that take specific medical conditions into account.

I've just looked at the latest Which report and the following recommended companies are a few that could be useful.

    All Clear - Traveller
    Blue Bear Travel - Gold
    Covered 2 Go - Gold
    Get Going Travel - Premier
    Holidaysafe - Premier

The above all cover breast cancer in their policies and are for up to 70 years old and 15 days single trip within Europe.

If you want annual policy options let me know.

    Hope this helps.

You could call a broker who would have access to many insurers so one call rather than multiple
