Length of Service

Hi guys

My wife has just been declared 'at risk'. One of the factors in the equation will be length of service.....

Initially she was on a zero-hours contract but, after climbing the Greasy Pole, is now in a senior management position. Does her initial period of zero-hours contract count towards her overall length of service? Or does length of service only start counting from when she moved over to a proper contract?

Thanks,
GC

Im not sure just on the legal side, but does the company have a policy?

I know some do recognise it.

Hadn't thought of that - I'll make sure she asks.

    Thanks.

Unless the company have policy to that effect, no. Redundancy is based on continuous service as an employee. Zero hours people are workers and not employees
  • Another point to make is you do not know if longer service is deemed a good or a bad thing ?
