  • Thanks AJ. Feel like all I did yesterday was spend money. When I thought about it later it was mainly stuff I had to buy.. Birthday prezzie, food, etc. We did have a chinese but we dont go out loads at the mo and we havent been eating out.
In a min I will type it into the spreadsheet and see where I am.
I did get 10 cards for £1, and I stuck to my budget for the prezzie.
I need to chase up top cash back... Been waiting ages for RAC money and something else.
Need to go for shopping today, going to meal-plan
and try to keep it cheap. Having a 'dont know what to eat' week.
Not sure what we are up to today... If its sunny itll probably be a run out somewhere.
My shower is leaking and have had a quote which seems very dear to me. Trying to find a cheaper way!
Feel like I have been careful since payday but not reflected in bank balance!!

  • Had a lovely day yesterday - had a run out locally to a nice spot and played football and went on the park and chilled out together. Fairly cheap.
Todays plan...looks really warm and sunny so maybe a spot of gardening and then a run out somewhere for a few hours or a walk. Defrosted some pork for tea and feel like I could probably cobble together a few meals from what's in. Need to get a few bits from Aldi at some point. I never got around to doing my weekend shop which has meant a few visits to the co-op. Doing one weekly shop is definitely better for my budget!
Hopefully money for gold will go in my account tomorrow and then I can finally make another overpayment to the mortgage, Ill overpay my fiver from the Halifax reward too.
I knew May would be tight, but I am trying to stick to my spending plan.
Hope everyone enjoys the lovely weather!

  • Having a rubbish month financially. I knew it would be tight anyway, but got to get leak/kitchen ceiling sorted and have ended up doing work to bathroom which I knew needed doing. Had expensive quote off first plumber, so we've done some bits ourselves and are going to get another plumber to quote.
I feel like I dont know where my moneys gone since payday! Im going to sit down and go through bills and bank statements at some point. No o/ps but made my standard £230 o/p on payday.
I am wondering if Im being too ambitious with all my different savings.... Time for a review of all monies I think!
Last month I did so well!!! I keep feeling myself slipping into that mindframe that 'ive overspent so what the hell...' Now, but im trying to get back on track. Payday seems a long way off!

Don't be hard on yourself you are doing great!!

I haven't started making overpayments yet as I am still waiting for my first mortgage payment to gou out. But it's reading all the diaries on here that have got me fired up to do it yours included.

We all have months where we have unexpected bills and payments, I'm sure you will make it up in months to come.
  • Thanks Ixia!
I am going to just limit the damage this month then I should be able get back on track! Should be a no spend day today. Bit of visiting to do, etc.
I have done a few surveys and have been collecting my tesco points so hopefully all the little bits will add up at some point!

  • Havent posted for a while but as its payday I will begin anew. Made my regular o/p and have gone through all my finances and sorted things out a bit to make it all a bit more maintainable long term. I have increased 'fun' budget as it was doing my head in constantly feeling guilty about spending.
I am going to continue with the cashback sites and tesco points, and am going to generally watch the pennies.

  • Haven't posted in ages basically seemed to lose my way a bit!
I've kept up my monthly overpayment of £220 a month though so that's good.
Since the bathroom leak had to spend lots and ended up redoing bathroom...got cheap quote and I'm hoping its all added value to my home but somehow haven't got straight since! And it's not finished..
Going to start afresh. Seem to start behind every month.
I've gone through my budget and adjusted so it actually does balance. Just need to try to get to payday in credit. It'll be a challenge!
I will ring on Monday to get updated mortgage balance.
I seem to be only able to sort one thing at a time...the busier I am at work then everything else slips!
I have planned food for next three days and need to really watch the pennies..harder in hols but Ill try!
I was looking at all my overpayments since May and it has had an impact...just need to get things back on track. I'm due to look at my gas and elec and am now in credit so ill get on top cash back and maybe I'll switch.
I think I'm going to abandon using my Tesco credit card to get extra points! It just messes up my mindset.
I'm going to go cash only again... It really worked before...

  • Officially back on the wagon! Made a little overpayment of £8 that was lurking in my mortgage op account.
Swapped gas and elec and should get £15 cashback from topcashback...not a lot but it was the best deal overall, plus save a small amount a month. im also going to try to reduce the bills by being more careful generally!
Was very careful with food shopping yesterday and made a lovely cheese and onion tart which'll do 2 days dinners. Cheap day planned today.
Although I haven't done too well with whole mortgage o/p thing over last few months, I am still saving some money in my ISA and other accounts for various things (new car, etc) so its actually not all bad.
Just need to stay focused and not start overspending or 'wasting' all those little bits that add up!
Feeling like Ive got my motivation back a bit so here we go again...

Good news on the OP :) and that your back with it.

Any savings on gas and electric is a bonus. I have been putting my meter readings in the last 2 weeks to my online account to try and get a rough idea of usage.

I usually change my supplier every year to get cashback if it's a better deal. It all helps.
  • I had a cheap day yesterday. Should be able keep spending down this week although got to buy 2 prezzies. Got a few days food in already. Got about £36 due from top cashback so will use some for prezzies and a few quid to o/p.
I keep thinking about moving house but its not really a possibility anyway yet till I finish some decorating. Really the plan was to stay put till fix ends in 2017 then move.... I think this would be the sensible option but we'll see. Want to get house valued but ill be gutted if its worth less than I paid for it .. Although I know the markets fallen now!
When I think that if I keep to current o/p levels itll be paid off when Im 50 i do feel pleased with myself. I reduced term by 5 years when I bought house so all these things are going to benefit me in the long run. Just keep trying get balance between enjoying the now and improving the future!
