Sorry for the lack of updating. I've been saving though and have 2k which is £500 a month for Jan - April. Now things have settled back down I'll be able to check in properly.

Quick question if anyone who uses YNAB can help? Would it be suitable for someone who has erratic cash flow?

    Thanks

Yes as you only budget with money you have got, so having a erratic cash flow is okay as you just balance the available to budget with the budget catagories.

Actually those with eratic cash flow are the ones that appreciate YNAB as they no longer look at their bank balances but their budget and forces you to cover your bills first, (which wouldn't know what you are short by and need to keep aside) if you were just looking at balance at each payday/funds to be budgeted.

I would agree with Westie - if you have erratic income, then YNAB will try and get you to a point where that doesn't matter - I'm salaried, but I still appreciate the fact that things like car insurance, Christmas etc are 'paid for' over 12 months instead of covering it with just the month they occur in and crossing my fingers that this month's money is enough!

  • Thank you both. I'm hoping to free up a bit of head space by not having to remember payments in and out over several bank accounts! I'll check it out :)

If it helps I have around 40 accounts on my YNAB, which means each account I can see how much I need in the account to cover the DD's and each time I have money, I fund each account going down, (*I have them listed in date order of DD's) so I cover DD in accounts that pay out on the 22nd after payday, and then I know I can cover the 1st Bills by the tax credit payment I get later on in the month.

Any questions Ill try to help

    Reporting £2500 this month,

I have had two switching incentives that I have included this month, and I have had two maturing Regular Savers, so I will expect next month to be less as I have a few more maturing.
