Protecting company name ?

If just starting out, funds are low, and income very minimal, how do you protect the company name, so that no-one else can register it?

Get a ltd company. Two ltd companies cannot have the same name.

you need to realise that you have to spend to accumulate

if funds are so low that you can't protect the "company" name by setting up a company in the first place then what exactly are you asking about?

companies are very cheap to buy, their running costs are less cheap

Thanks all, have heard there's some way of having a dormant coy name, so that it's still registered to you?

There is, but you'd be well advised to speak to an accountant.

Is this name really so precious that someone else might snatch it away from you?
Signature removed for peace of mind

Do you have the domain name? Might be worth buying that in both .com and .co.uk so nobody else can.

An Indian restaurant in my area made the mistake of distributing leaflets with their web address on it before they'd bought the site. One of their competitors bought it instead and redirected all their hits to their website instead.
