Who to inform?

My daughter has started a part time job, 14 hrs a week earning £94 a week. She is a full time student does she need to inform anybody? I know she doesn't earn enough to pay tax or NI.

Thanks

She gets paid cash in hand, it's a fish and chip shop.

    Thanks for the reply

Is she actually on the shop's books? Sounds rather like she isn't...

She doesn't need to inform anyone. Nothing illegal about being paid cash in hand (unless you are doing so to collude with an employer to evade tax, which obviously isn't the case here); it is for the employer to declare to HRMC that she is being employed by them.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Thanks for the reply, it's been a long time since I worked as a student so I couldn't remember.

And some things have changed ... although not the basics. Sounds like your DD completed the HMRC Starter Checklist form, which you and I would have called a P46, and that will enable her employer to work out whether or not they need to deduct tax, but chances are she'd get it all back if it was deducted.

Make sure she's getting payslips, and that she understands the basics of tax and NI, and what's on her payslip. Also auto-enrolment, although chances are she won't be earning enough to have to be enrolled.
