    Back to the original post...

    Hi all

    Just a warning really...

..please be aware that we've just been advised 1st central car insurance policies do not give drivers 3rd party cover on other cars even if they have fully comp policies and are over 25.

As far as I'm aware this is standard on most policies but we nearly got caught out when we called them back to double check the policy we'd just purchased. You can't pay extra fo it either!

Hope nobody gets caught out! We've just cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period - just hope they promptly refund the premium that we paid in full! Fingers crossed!

1st Central are a joke. I've been phoning them for 2 weeks after receiving my settlement offer 3 weeks after the accident. They have contacted me once, on a Saturday. They claim they require me to have a conference call with them and the DVLA to check my licence, I had no problem with this but of course they call me on the day the DVLA are closed. (Is it standard to check my licence in order for me to be sent my cheque, or is this a delay tactic?) I've tried phoning them countless times and sit on hold for 20 minutes - an hour. I've been hung up on before, credit has ran out, and the one time I actually got through to someone, the DVLA office was closed after me waiting 50 minutes. I've sent several emails in the past 2 weeks and have not received a response. This company has, by far the worst customer service I've ever experienced. The last person I was speaking to was claiming the conference call was the only thing left to do on my end, I asked is that DEFINITELY all that's required and she said they hadn't received the valuation yet, which is ridiculous, as the only other person I was speaking to agreed with the valuation quote I had received in the post. The agent must have said, 'I don't know' at least three times, to simple questions, which is clearly just a way of not providing definitive answers. It's a disgrace that these companies can get away with leaving people in the dark for months whilst the little guy gets charged fees if a payment is late or one piece of information is incorrect. I plan to sit on a friend's landline tomorrow for as long as it takes to get through to them, but I've already spent well over £60 trying to get through to them. I also asked if i could be called back due to hold times and how expensive it is for me to call them. (I don't have a landline) The agent had a perfectly rehearsed response, 'We can't guarantee that, it depends how busy we are'. I could go on all day about this company, they have no regard for any of their customers and the most pathetic thing about it is, we have to just sit there and take it. I wonder if I didn't pay my insurance would they phone me and sit on hold for an hour only to be hung up on. I can't even go to the ombudsman until 8 weeks after an official complaint to them! It's ridiculous, my whole life gets put on hold because I can't replace my vehicle. Avoid this company at all costs, seriously! I'd sooner pay double the amount for a decent service than take their cheap way of making you legal on the road, 'cuz that's all they do.

I'd also avoid at all cost was with them for 7 years then I went to change car they added on all these charges £30 for changing address £30 for updating a new car then told me I could do it through there stupid online customer portal which never works then was charged another £15 for calling then and informing them there poxy portal doesn't work when I finally got on realised that they had never updated my documents to show my private number plate as everything is done online I stupidly assumed they had done it when I changed the number plate and paid another £30 for this to be done two years prior they do not send out paper copies of anything ......that's more money ! I cancelled my policy after being told that I wasn't even allowed to drive other cars as 3rd party !!! Yes there cheap but you pay for what you get AVOID !!! By the time you add one all the other bits and spent ages calling you may as well go to a reputable company've been warned !!

    Crazy Renewal Premium
I switched to 1st Central last year as their price was a bit lower than my existing insurer. I probably should have read this thread at the time, but just clicked through from the comparison site.

I didn't have an problems or any reason to contact them at all during the year, so all seemed fine

I just got my renewal quote from them and it has gone from £600 last year to £2350 this year!
i just compared online and have renewed with another provider for £610 - there were several around that price, so I know it can't be my car or area that much

I really can't work out why they decided they didn't want my business, it couldn't be clearer if they sent a personal note with a great big £$%£ OFF! written in it

Luckily it wasn't Auto Renew, I checked that very carefully to make sure I wouldn't get suckered with a massive renewal price

    Cancellation shocker
My husband sorted out car insurance recently and unfortunately chose 1st Central because they were cheap and we were intending to sell the car (had hoped to get rid of it before the insurance ran out but it was not to be!). Well, we have finally successfully sold the car, so I called up today to cancel the insurance policy. It transpires that it is not only £50 to cancel the policy but they ALSO "retain a non-refundable admin fee for setting the policy up", that'll effectively be £100 to cancel then will it? Oh, no, only £73 because I have already paid a proportion of the £50 admin fee in the two payments made so far. Oh good. I am appalled and certainly will not be using their "services" again.

Just so you know, you can usually view policy documents online before buying a policy so you can see all their charges before you buy.

    Dropped Claim
Wondering if anyone can help me with this issue as I feel like I've been getting nowhere in the past 3 days. I was in a minor accident in late 2015 when I was insured with Hastings and had a claim put on, this increased my monthly payments by a substantial amount when I signed on to be insured with 1st central in 2016. Recently after sifting through my emails, I discovered a proof of no claims discount. I contacted both insurers and it seems as though the claim was dropped so I am owed the extra amounts I was paying monthly from 1st central. I cleared a whole day's schedule to simply sort this out and I'm still waiting for 1st central to get back to me. Have the company withheld information from me for profit and is this legal? I will be calling them and contacting them persistently until I get my full amount back.

It should not warrant a day off work, simply send them the correct proof of no claims bonus via snail mail (Take a photocopy of it for your own records) or email it along with a simple letter asking them to update their records and adjust your premium accordingly

1stCentral Cancellation - Extorting Fees but No Policy
Hiya wondering if anyone has any advice for me.
I paid a deposit with 1stCentral at the start of march, a few days later they asked for more information. They wanted a copy of the drivers licence and proof of no claims bonus. This was fine. Took a few days for the NCB to come through from the other company, emailed them back. Another email arrived from them saying they needed both drivers licences and a unique code. Thinking it was on the licences having never heard of it before. I send a copy front and back of both liences. One full week later we receive a cancellation letter. We had been uninsured all week!!! Upon phoning them they explained that i didnt give them the info required so the policy was broken. Accepting i should have called them to double check all was as it should be, the lady informed me i have to pay more money. I paid 86 deposit on the first month. They now want 75 for admin charges, 50 non refundable and whatever time we were insured with them for, will be charged aswell. So for 3 weeks worth of insurance they want me to pay 211 plus time insured. Oh and i never saw/agreed to/sign a policy or had any sort of cover letter. I honestly dont know which way is up at the moment or how things will proceed. I have reinsured with another company and explained everything to them and they said it not how they or their sister companies would ever operate. Any advice please???

You need to challenge the cancellation of the policy - once you have a cancelled policy on your record you do need to disclose it to all other insurers you approach for quotes or cover, and most online companies refuse to quote if you have had a cancellation.

Complain using their complaints procedure that they have acted unfairly by cancelling your policy and that they left you uninsured without notice (if that was the case).

If you are unhappy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you.

Make sure your current insurer is aware that you have a cancelled policy by your previous insurer - check that it is mentioned in your policy docs.

It's been almost a month and I've been calling twice a week and emailing consistently. It's been confirmed I'm owed the money after sending them the proof of no claims and I feel at this point the company is deliberately wasting my time

    Mr R Kelly

These people have shown themselves to be bumbling inept buffoons!!!!! Not Professionals.

God Help you if you ever need to Claim with them.
You cant even get them on the phone, much less make a claim!
    They are not Competent.

Stay as far away from them as you can.
I took out insurance with them in Jan 2017. I tried to update my vehicles cover to include Business use for my wife who had changed jobs. I could not get through to them on the phone or contact them via the web.

In the end I lost all confidence in them, because if i ever did have to make a claim with them it would be a nightmare. In the end it was easier to go & get another policy and just cancelled with them.
At every turn, they have made it all but impossible for me to get any refund for the 4-5 month insurance that I paid up front for.
They have mislead me, & mucked me about for months. All I asked for was a refund both in writing & by phone.
I complained & they upheld my complaint & apologised but they still won't give me my money back or cancel my policy. Even though I had verbally & in writing told them to cancel my policy.
To add insult to injury, they sent me an email threatening to renew my policy & take funds from my credit card, A Card they previously could not refund!
Shortly after the renewal notice arrived, they sent me an email saying they were proposing to refund £3.92 for the 4-5 moths insurance. I would love to pay that amount for the best part of half a years car insurance premium!

I had to cancel my credit card with Nationwide because they could not, or would not, assure me they could prevent this company from taking money from my card on the pretence of a renewal. This even though, I had complained to them about this matter & still had not received a reply!!! What a carry on!!!!

STAY WELL CLEAR OF 1st Central. You may want to reflect on the wisdom of have a Credit Card with Nationwide while you'r at it!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

"Simply Driven" is 1st Central's their slogan. More Like" Drive you Simple" if you try to do business with them!
Or maybe more apt the company should be know as, "Driven by the Simple"

    Happy Motoring.

Do not use them they will rob you
I highly doubt anyone leaving a positive review on this company is legit.
I suspect they have links to the company as in my experience and what I have read up on them they are the worst company Iíve had the displeasure of dealing with.
They have terrible customer service and will rob you at every turn. You just have to look at google review to see how bad they are.

They will not pay a claim because I accidentally clicked my sister as spouse instead of sister on the initial form.

Does not affect anything to do with the policy in anyway.

When claiming they will interrogate you to try to get out of honouring their policy.

Iím on a mission to insure nobody else gets robbed by these crooks. will be doing everything in my power to stop anyone else going through what I have.

    Avoid them at all costs!!!!

Absolute crooks, avoid at all costs!

After experiencing their massively popular website Driving Licence start date trick, I cancelled the policy and paid dearly, despite still being inside the 14 day cooling off period.

I then had to buy a replacement policy on the day, which of course costs more than buying in advance.

I am still fighting to get back the unauthorised transaction they made on my credit card.

Complaint made, but not holding my breath. Next stop will probably be a referral to The Financial Ombudsman Service.

Don't get taken in by the low quotes, you will regret it!
