    Back to the original post...

    Hi all

    Just a warning really...

..please be aware that we've just been advised 1st central car insurance policies do not give drivers 3rd party cover on other cars even if they have fully comp policies and are over 25.

As far as I'm aware this is standard on most policies but we nearly got caught out when we called them back to double check the policy we'd just purchased. You can't pay extra fo it either!

Hope nobody gets caught out! We've just cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period - just hope they promptly refund the premium that we paid in full! Fingers crossed!

I have had lots of car insurance over many years. And until my son tried as many of you here have already with the same " send proof etc" and cancell the policy with a 75 charge.. This has to be a scam folks.....Is the Insurance regulation lot gone on holiday ?
I have never come across a so called Insurance firm as this 1st Central, look back from 2008 and its crazy what people have posted here, surely we must have some rights ? or i suppose the government dont care as usual for the motorist. Just keep getting easy money off us.

Ohhh where is Tom1stcentral these days ?

1st central are the worst insurers I have ever used!!!
The price was great until I needed to change my car. No department I got through to knew it what the costs to change would be. Most times I rang over 6 weeks I was transferred to 'the other departmenr' left on hold for up to 30 minutes of hen then the line w nr dead. When I cancelled and reinsured with someone else they harassed me most days yet when I mentioned the issues I had for six weeks I was again told I need to speak to the other department. I had a terminally ill relative in hospital whilst this was happening and said I would get in touch with the them at a more convenient time. They kept ringing demanding more bey for the remains three months that but wer vi able to give me a breakdown of why the t would cost a huge amount more of Han I would have paid via direct debit. I have spoken to someone twice a week for six weeks, I have been told the matter will be resolved yet still get harassed by them. They are unable to explain why the costs are my re than the original policy and rang me everyday I was visiting my relative at a time when I had to insure with someone else so I had a car to travel in. For one whole month I paid for their insurance when I had sold the car and bought a different one. I was nable to drive he new car as they couldn't work out the correct price adjustment so my car sat on the drive and I made arrangements to get to irk and visit my relative who was in hospital 70 miles away. They are a company to stay away from at all costs even if they are the cheapest. If it seems to good to be true it usually is in their case. Reinsured with Diamond who hav been fantastic like all my other insurers. Oh and finally, when I set the original policy up with 1st central they threatened to cancel my policy and charge me a further 75 for not proving my no claims he I had posted it twice and faxed it many times. They argued hey had no proof of it for two weeks until finally a copy magically appeared in their office. My advise of to use a reputable company even if they are a more expensive. They caused me more upset and heartache and left me paying for insurance for a car I no longer had at a time when I most needed my car.

Thats not on at all. Maybe go to insurance regulator?

Do NOT Insure with 1st Central Insurance.... my advice. I paid to insure my car with them at the beginning of March. One of the criteria was that my wife needed cover to drive for business use. I was assured that my documents would be ready to view within 48 hours. They were not. I tried to contact them and after an absolute song and dance finally got through to someone shoe assured me ( Again) that the documents would be viewable within 24 hours of that conversation. This they were not. So again the whole song and dance routine of trying to get through on what would appear to be a premium rate number ensued. This time I requested that a certificate of motor insurance be emailed to me to confirm cover. This did arrive but at section 6 after stating that business use by my wife was indeed covered, in the very next sentence included "commercial travel" as one of the exclusions for this policy.

I once again attempted to contact someone about this ambiguous wording and was told by the call handler that "it should be alright" I was not prepared to accept this and after consulting my solicitor for clarification, was advised that the wording was so ambiguous as to be meaningless with loopholes so large, any insurance cover for the business use would be easily denied. I once again asked for a certificate of insurance with clear wording relating to the cover I had been charged for but 1st Central were unable to provide one so I informed them by phone and email of the fact I was cancelling the policy and the reasons for doing so.

Since then I have been harassed for payments and threatened with legal action interspersed with emails requesting I let them know how well I think they are doing! Do not be fooled by the cheaper prices here people! Cheaper is not always the best route. I cannot advise against dealing with 1st Central Insurance highly enough!

This saga is still ongoing with the threatening email and phone campaign still ongoing. My solicitor is very confident that should they actually try to show a non payment marker with a credit reference agency, the threat that has been made on more than one occasion, I will be in an extremely strong position to sue and believe me, that is exactly what I will be doing!

Commercial travelling is widely recognised and would not have allowed them to deny business use cover (as long as she isn't commercial travelling).

I insured for one year with this lot. Fortunately I didn't have any need to make a claim.
Prior to this I had always insured with very well known companies.
I discovered accidentally that my fully comp ins with first central didnt let me drive other people's cars with their permission third party.
I made a mistake by not googling for reviews before I signed up. I now try to remember to google reviews for anything I buy from hair dyers to car insurance. Not always easy to remember to do it but I try. Hope that's a good tip for any readers.

    1 Central
All I can say is OMG. Bought the new policy with 1 Central in March. Entered all the details correctly on, however was investigated for 6 weeks like a biggest criminal, because on their system the details were different (despite me printing the screenshot with the correct details on They have listened to the phone conversation only to find out that I was not asked them questions over the phone. I did make about 15 calls trying to solve the problem. All 15 times asked to speak to Manager and not a single time I was transferred to any. Looks like the managers don't exist at all over there. Finally the issue got solved by one helpful advisor over the phone last week and he has emailed the confirmation the issue has been solved and the matter is closed. All good until yesterday's email, that my policy has been automatically canceled!!! Back on the phone again trying to solve the matter. Next year even if they are cheaper than others by 50% NO way I stay with them. I can only imagine what they are like if accident happens during a year. Normally I don't leave any feedback anywhere, but people must know of this one. Stay AWAY
  • stargatemunky
Let's not forget with me they charged an extra 500 premium for an accident I thought i'd declared.

Ignoring this fact I wasn't angry at this. I was angry at the fact that it's their company policy NOT to inform you in writing but to simply add the fee and then inform you via spam email!

So it's ok suddenly to take this amount of money out of someones account without informing them. That's what payday loan companies are supposed to do.

Well also they seem to say I owe them 350 on the website for some reason given the fact I did actually pay my insurance fees on time.

No doubt another BS reason will be given.

agree with all the things posted on here. beware of this company, they will charge you a flat rate of 50 across the board for any minor change to your policy regardless. when i tried to argue this point they said they charged everyone this and there were no exceptions and therefore it was fair of them to charge me it too. the fact they had charged for 150 a month earlier to cancel another policy, they were uncompromising in taking this into account. i would warn anyone taking up their policy with them that they treat their customers with the utmost lack of care, respect and consideration. i dread to think how they would be if you actually made a claim. on a side note, their response times to picking up the phone to answer queries is quite long too

    NEVER use first central.

We are going through a complete non fault claim with them right now and all they are doing is hassling us daily for the courtesy car back whilst offering hundreds less than my written off car is worth.

We didn't even agree to payment and I was informed cheque is in the post; absolute waste of space. It's at the level now where I'm actually going to visit their office in Sussex and see if they treat customers like pieces of !!!! to their faces.

First central Admin charge of 30 to get third party cover on other vehicles
Hi, 1st central does do the cover now and on the website it states "If you are 25 or over then in a majority of cases we will cover you to drive other cars, although please note that there are some exceptions to this rule, for example some occupations will not be covered."

I got the policy when I was 24 and now I am 25, so I rang the company and asked if I was insured to drive other vehicles at third party (to double check) and they told me that they would need to make a change to my policy, so there would be a 30 admin charge! I have recently made a change online and was charged an admin fee for that too.

BBC One - Watchdog Daily which shows you some insurance companies which have much cheaper admin charges, and if you do them online some companies are even free!

Just as a warning, please be aware that every time you make a change there will be a further extortionate admin charge! I will be leaving for a different company when it comes to the renewal of my policy.

Also after reading several reviews about this company I would strongly advise people to stay away from this company.

avoid 1st central at all costs.
I had 1st central insurance and my advice is STEER CLEAR. Told my husband that he would be insured 3rd party on other vehicles then after payment said that this was incorrect, then charged him 50 cancellation fee even though thep policy was less than 20mins old!
I sold my car and cancelled my policy and was asked for 82 fee, I asked for a breakdown, but never heard froma anyone only to find that rather than rectify the problem they passed it onto a debt collection agency! Never dealt with such poor customer service or awful company. PAY THE EXTRA, they're cheaper for a reason!

Please do not buy from this company!! Just recently had an accident and almost got arrested due to having no insurance!?!? Luckily because I made such a fuss to the police saying that the their data base was wrong I was given a producers note! So I called them up the next morning and sorted the insurance, was a massive mistake on their side and promised to fix it all up, which hasn't been done!! I have been trying to get certificate of insurance emailed to me so I can then print it off and take it to the police station. I received the email today and my bloody registration was one digit short, my patience has gone with this company, one the claim and what not has been sorted I'll be cancelling the policy and will never be returning to them. They will say what you want to hear over the phone but will do nothing about the claim off of the phone, awful company!!

Zero customer focus - Charges for everything
Hi, I wanted to share my experience of using 1st Central. After renewing my wife's policy there was a small issue, this turned into a bigger issue with constant emails, letters and threats of policy cancellation even though I was responding over the Christmas period and I had a problem getting checker code from DVLA. In the end I decided that I wanted nothing more to do with them - However this involves a 50 non refundable setup fee, a 50 cancellation fee and a 50 admin fee (to change licence issue date from 01/12/1985 to 24/06/1986). Regardless of this I'm leaving them and will never do business with them again. Buyer beware of small print and ridiculous charges...

My experience of 1st Central is steer clear!!
The info I sent over from was incorrect. When I tried to cancel they wouldnt let me as the policy holder name was different. Various emails and calls later and I'm still trying to resolve it. Customer service give you different advice each time and when you question it, you are made out to be lying. They are also quite aggressive and won't let you speak.
I wouldnt touch them with a bent barge pole!

Long story short - they have been taking nearly 40 a month from me for over a year for a policy I ended in February 2015. Yes I know I should have seen it before they sent me a renewal notice to keep doing it (that's another story) but having checked I definitely ended the policy plus I have found old emails from them asking me to click and return an agreement for them to keep the policy going after I ended it (in a junk folder of course) which of course I never clicked and sent back. That might be their mistake which gets me the money back.

Now waiting over 45 minutes to get through via WeQ4u and they hang up when they hear its a call via that app.

An absolute f* shower of c*s that I will pursue with zeal. W*kers
