    Madness of course - considering the help to buy isa has been available to open for 4 years!

    Not sure again why HMRC/HMT couldn't have changed the rules to allow people to continue opening accounts for a while yet considering you have until 2030 to claim the bonus and can pay into existing accounts until 2029. They have extended the help to buy equity loan regime.

    This deadline seems to have created a lot of unnecessary bother for account openers (e.g. 16 year olds getting NI numbers) and banks and building societies having huge stress placed on their systems. So ridiculous given the 2029/30 deadline - a decade away!

    I doubt the civil servants and George Osborne who set the original deadlines are that impacted though!
