Cat Litter tray - how freq do you change it?

I have a litter tray and daily i try to pic out the solids, and turn the litter over to soak up the urine, but i was wondering, how freq do you change the litter in the litter tray?

I use clumping litter so pee goes into a ball, I remove pee balls and poo every day. Total clean out and wash the litter tray once a week. I top up the litter each time I remove the pee balls and pee as well. This is for one cat, if you have two then you need two litter trays.

Cats will stop using the litter tray if you do not keep it clean.

Ditto. We use Cat's Best litter - not the cheapest, but it clumps well so all the pee is removed, and what's left doesn't smell.

I'm sure if we used a non-clumping litter, and just spread the pee around, fussy madam wouldn't go near it !

The 'rule' is actually one litter tray for each cat then +1. So one cat should have 2, two cats should have 3.

    Exactly the same as us.

Completely changing the litter every day as mentioned in a previous post is overkill (or the poster misunderstood the question).

I find it's more efficient to use a poop scoop and gloved hands
