My boss has scheduled a meeting tonight because he is a miserable bu**er who doesnt believe in bank holidays.

He sounds like a right treasure. Glad you made the decision not to turn out for it. 42 miles - I'd be crippled!

The friend I haven't seen for 30 years has arrived and I'm shattered after one evening! Not much flying will be happening while he's around.

Kittens fine, Kelpie coping, although we still haven't been able to merge them yet. A box of rabbit disappeared between them all this morning and they were all so interested in it that they forgot how close they were to each other. Serious progress, but we can't keep bribing them forever.
    Better is good enough.

Hi. I've been lurking here recently. I hope to join in properly maybe next week as not much will get done here this week.
I have a favour to ask, Honey Bear would it be alright to PM you with some cat news/ questions? I really need help and feel more comfortable asking here than on the other board.

Just checking in. Feeling oddly lethargic and not with it today. Tried to open a cupboard door with the wrong key at work and couldnt work out why the lock wouldnt turn. Thank goodness no-one was watching!

Paid stuff done. Little bit on job no. 2, need to get passport photos done (forms MUST go off this week) and a couple of parcels to send off so going to drive into town shortly. Gym class later, will take it steady.

Oh and going to make lasagne for tea. Might do that next.

First things first - you need to be able to eat.

You might need to declutter as well as clean -

First - chuck all empty packets, half eaten boxes, packets, tins, bottles and jars. Clear the countertop. Clean the countertop. Clear the sink. Clean the sink. Start washing up. Clear the hob. Clean the hob. Wash up pans left on the hob.

Things like books, magazines and food containers - books into spare room, magazines into recycling, tupperware, takeaway containers into the bin (you can get more at a pound shop if you find out later you need them).

Chuck out rusted pans, buckled trays and cracked crockery.

That starts you off - keep the sink, counter and hob clean, wiping up as you cook, sticking packets into the bin or putting away the moment you stop using them. Wash up bits as you go along - less to do after tea when you just want to sit down. Whilst the sink is filling for after tea, wipe over the hob.

Add in more bits as you get used to having somewhere to prepare and cook food.

NEXT - your bedroom. Because it's where you rest.

Most importantly, strip and make your bed with all fresh linen. Once you've got a nice, clean bed to fall into (or lie on when it's hot), start thinking about the next thing that you notice as you lie there - a box of stuff? An overfull wastepaper bin? Heaps of stuff on a dressing table? Keep your bed clean, no putting things on it, just deal with that one thing. If it means making the spare room look worse, so be it - your bedroom is more important because you're the one who uses it.

If you have a clean bed and a way of feeding yourself, the rest will follow.

Himself is all a flip floppy waify drip today. It's too hot for the poor love and he wants to have a nap. Like he's been up all day whilst I've been at work.

I was up at stupid o'clock with the joys of AF pain, so faffed around trying to find something cool enough to wear without it highlighting my bloated belly. Then went to work to find the s*dding central heating was still on. I was not happy.

I have therefore done next to nothing all day and snuck out early because everybody else seemed to have already left for the day.

Idiot Cat has fallen out the window again. Just as well it's the ground floor.

All part of the Hostile Environment for immigrants, Natty. Never used to be like this - and it's why Himself was coerced into renewing his passport and driving licence, both of which have been invaluable over the last few months.

You should have been given a sheet listing all the other things they need when you don't have a passport/driving licence - household bill within the last three months, birth certificate issued at birth, bank statement int he last three months, council tax bill, etc, etc. It is possible to do, but it's certainly not easy.

When you get your DBS certificate, go online and register the certificate with the Update Service, though - not only is it more useful for whatever you need it for right now, it saves you having to go through it again when they decide it needs to be renewed, as it's updated automatically, and if you need one through another organisation, the actual checks for their one take less time. Only £13 a year, you can opt for automatic renewal (we did) and then you really don't have to think about it again.

Had a calm talk [strike]at[/strike] with Himself about how much the state of the kitchen is getting to me. He said nowt, I said lots. It'll be interesting to see whether it makes any difference - I've even offered to buy a new dishwasher and a fancy steamcleaner if he thinks it'll help.

    Morning.
I'm doing a quick trip to the market and a top up shop before going out for a walk with a friend. It was so much quicker when I could run, but hey ho. I'm going to wear my trainers though a) because it's the first time that I haven't been for a walk in wellies for a long time and b) because it might make me feel like I've exercised. It's all in the mind....

I threw my toys out of the pram last night in a 'this could be worse, so don't push it' way. I'm sick of living in a hovel where nothing ever gets done. We will still need to renovate when we are old and infirm. The result was that I then spent a MAD half hour in the garden flinging salad seeds wherever there was a gap. I suppose at least that job got done.

Off out soon, back later as I have a long list to do. A friend is coming round this afternoon for a coffee, so that's a couple if hours ruled out.

Have a good day. Frodders - hope you are ok. X

Welcome, Marie2. PM me and ask away by all means but I won't be able to reply until much later today when my house guest goes.

That may have something to do with your 42 mile megaride in the sun!

Welcome Klew 356! Jojo's excellent tailored post says it all really, and when you need a bit of extra light reading, the first post on the thread includes masses and masses of information that helped me start to get this house under control.

If it all seems too much, an excellent tip passed on to me by Ionafan when I was completely overwhelmed by it all - dot to dotting works. Just concentrate on on bit at a time until all the 'done dots' join up. Good luck with it.

    \rant alert

I've discovered something rather un-nerving. I'm so used to guests staying here that when a friend comes to stay and takes over my entire life, requiring all my attention during waking hours - I get to screaming pitch very, very quickly. Give me a paying guest over a ceaselessly needy friend any day.

If he were unhappy I could understand the neediness but he's not, just hyper attention-demanding, physically not aware about crowding people and emotionally incredibly intense. I expect that makes me a horrible person.

I've told him that Kelpie's hydrotherapy session, being run by a vet nurse, is a closed medical treatment and therefore I can't take him with me. This is an out and out lie - I've taken masses of people to watch. I'm a very bad person.

    \end of rant

I don't take credit for the dot-to-dotting - it was happening long before I joined this thread (Anj's Mum springs to mind???).

No you're not - you're protecting your guest from possible fall-out if you carried on trying to please him all day without a break :A

I have a big admin job which simply *must* be done this week, but it won't get done today. We are off out in the direction of Dizzy Land, but not quite far enough to make a flying visit IYSWIM. I have to order some made-to-measure work clothes that I shall be needing in September, so we're going to a specialist shop in a lovely little town with a cafe that does a very nice lunch, then we might manage to walk it off at a NT valley, with Rosie of course :) Must remember to take sunglasses and hats

Happy holiday to Mrs and Mr LW.

Hope everyone has a good day xx
