£50,000 Debt and trust Deed

Hello just a few words on my own experiences with Debt as reguards the Scottish situation, Long story short, due to my own foolishness and peer pressure I ran up £50,000 worth of debts on various credit cards , store cards and personal loans the crunch came came when take home pay £1500 did not match up to out goings £1550. The !!!!!! hit the fan, telling my wife was the worst she did not have a clue what was going on. I contacted a debt managment company who advised that setting up a Trust Deed was the best way forward ( Voluntary Sequestration ).
This was over 3 years ago and it was the best decision of my life my debt is now clear and I have been able to sleep peacefully since I originally took the decision to go for the trust deed.
The biggest step was the first one, making the decision to go for help helped clear my mind and ease it. Their are some drawbacks which might not suit everybody, you will probably have to surrender Endowment policys and switch to to a repayment mortgage, any major increase in property values would require a remortgage, super duper motors would have to be sold off.

Bottom line is seek advice CAB or a professional debt handling company. I dont have ulcers any more. :)

Good advice bytp - glad the Deed worked out for you.

Just to clarify though, don't use a debt counsellor that charges fees. These are free

Whilst I do concur with not paying debt advisors when there is so much "free" help about......the difficulty with that is that they are normally under pressure and do not go into the "grey" areas like the trust deed.

    Best of luck.

It only applies in Scotland. It's a kind of bankruptcy, but not the full bankruptcy as we understand it in England & Wales. Now I think of it, it's more like an IVA

Also, in my experience, the free debt counsellors DO consider all the options and discuss them with you.

    Tee-Hee :)

A friend of mine says "If you want to know anything, ask DFC. If she doesn't know the answer, she knows where to look it up".

    I'm just kinda resourceful.

    Glad to have helped.

And that National Debtline website probably has everything anyone needs to know about debt issues. Very, very interesting ...
