Amazon music and iPad/ iPhone

Howdy .
I am finding using the above ratter confusing . I have purchased cds in the past from amazon , and the mo3's went straight on to amazon music. Pretty cool app.
It has even let me listen to stuff I haven't purchased for free via streaming . However , when I do want to buy mp 3's I get message on amazon music " digital music is not available to purchase from this device" .
Any ideas why that is ? I'm using iPad mini 4 / iPhone se
