Anyone have any Consumer Research tips?

I am trying to find some Consumer Research websites to sign up to. I currently use Saros and also Focus4people, but it's very rare that I ever get anything and Saros has a very strict policy. Does anyone have any other places they could suggest?

Thanks. x

  • No one?
  • I'm not too clear which sorts of sites you're looking for. Are you looking to be the researcher, running focus groups of volunteers or are you looking to participate or is it something else altogether? Is it just focus groups or are you also interested in online paid surveys etc? Let me know what you're after and I'll point you in the right direction?
  • Sorry, I wasn't at all clear with my initial post. :wall:

I have done some consumer research in the past where I have been interviewed regarding a product, one of them I did a questionnaire and then went into a room and commented on their various products, what would make me want to buy it, what sort of price I would expect it to be, that sort of thing. I think this is called being a panellist (but I'm not sure).

I do NOT want to be a reviewer, I want to be the one being interviewed or expressing my opinion.

I have done online surveys in the past but I find them dull and not worth the effort, so it's just face to face things or things that I am going to get paid well for (rather than getting vouchers for places I've never heard of).

I hope you can help, and thanks for replying.
  • What you are looking for are focus groups. There are a few companies that run these but whether they cover your area, I don't know. Try the following:

Fhios - focus groups and in-depth interviews paying £50 for 90/120 minutes and conducted throughout the UK
Lightspeed - occasional online focus groups. Usually £10-£20 for 1-2 hours.
Panelbase - Internet, telephone, SMS, product testing, focus groups or postal research all paying in cash
Ciao - Only very occasional but well paid if you qualify eg I received a request recently offering £80 for a focus group for Parkinsons' carers.
CCFRA - pay between £5-£50 depending on whether you take part in a taste test, focus group or online survey.

As regards online surveys have you tried ACOP which pays out on in cash each survey? They are usually quite short and often just ask your opinion on new product concepts. Pinecone also pay £4 for every survey and have loads of free new products to try but it's really hard to join.

If you need links to any of the above, try http://www.whichsurveys.com as that's the site I use most or PM me and I'll dig out links.
  • I've also just received an invitation from Home of Research inviting me to an online focus group on banking methods for which they're paying £25.

I joind HOR last year and the first year was pretty quiet. This year has been noticeably more active particularly since the introduction of new specialist interest groups on such subjects as food, wine, parenting, football, gaming, employment. If you qualify for one or more of these you'll get more invitations. It took me until August to get my first £20 cheque but I'm almost ready to claim my next one. I should also add that I'm not very prompt at responding to invitations so I don't earn anything like as much as I could.

i notice its only 50 points a survey and you have to get to 2000 points before you claim i wondering if its worth it, how quick are the surveys, pinecone seem to be the only one i find that pays well.

50 points is the minimum. In October for example I had 2 paying 100, 1 paying 150 and one paying 200 as well as 75 and 50 point surveys.
  • Homeworkeruk - thank you so much for your answer, that's been really great. I will definitely look into it.

For people looking for easy work such as handing out free samples etc there's a company called Logobrand who I've just done three hours work for and got £60, just handing out free samples of a well known chocolate! They also do other things which are a bit like mystery shopping but with no purchase necissary, and also merchandising where you have to go into the shop and see if the specific item is on sale, and whether they have the correct promotions on etc. It's all easy work.
