I Need A New Me

Oh here goes. I've been lurking on here for years and made my first post a couple of weeks ago. After some encouragement from some lovely people I am now ready to start my own diary.

I am in debt to the sum of £10223.85 (approx.). Need totals on credit card statements. In the last couple of months I have managed to pay £1073.56 so I'm hoping my the end of this month I can get sub £10k. I will be getting my last wage from my old employers before starting my new job on 1st September. Total change and I think I can make a really good career from this.

A bit about me, I'm 40 ish with an OH and a lovely teenage DD. Last year I moved into my OH's house and this has been a big anxiety inducing problem for me. I feel like I'm lost a bit with having no place of my own anymore. After a huge argument the other week I really wanted to move out but I was stuck, no money for a deposit and waiting list a mile long for council houses in our area. I have decided that I want an Emergency Fund and have joined the challenge for this to get £1k but realistically I would like that to be £3k. We have sorted things out now but I don't feel settled and knowing that I have some money behind me for if I'm ever put in that position again will help reduce the anxiety I feel about this.

Most of my debt is 0% interest. The biggest being a family loan but I plan to make overpayments each month as I know I have spare money to do this. I also have YNAB so I'm going to spend the afternoon getting that as up to date as I possibly can, until I know my new wage.

Well that's all for now and if you managed to get to the end, thank you for reading. And a big thanks to the lovely ladies who have encouraged me. You know who you are.

Take care.

  • Managed to get totals on credit cards so the total debt owing is £10338.89. If I wanted to clear this by the time I'm 50 then that would be a payment of £150 per month which I already do and more so hopefully it will be clear way before I'm 50. Off to update signature.

Yay Tinkerbelle, a lovely shiny new diary. Thank you for sharing your story.

Your debt paying plan looks great. You'll have that down in no time with the overpayments you're already used to, but it'll be lovely building your story around paying it off.

I'm sorry to hear about your feelings of being trapped and lost with your OH. Relationships are never easy, and this can't help things much either. Have you ever written down the pros and cons of living there? Even the tiny pros may help you realise that you're in a good place? I always admire both the person who is able to open up their home to another, and the person who leaves their own individual life and sanctuary to be included in another's life and home.

I've recently found that looking at everything with focus has really helped me transition and magnate towards my brighter path! Ooh - that's a bit deep! :D

  • Hi MT. I think I've just got a dark cloud over me at the moment resulting from the argument and how stuck I was. I am quite fortunate in somewhere nice to live but I don't want to feel so stuck just in case.

Pros are I don't pay the rent or council tax. Cons are I pay for everything else which I'm sure when I add it up comes to more.

OH will never be on board with money saving. That's why I am determined to get this clear. He has debts of his own but head is still stuck well and truly in the ground.

Ahh, I see! It's always quite difficult when you're walking slightly different paths, especially when your path is really imporant to you. Thank you for explaining! Hopefully, by having an escape fund you'll lose the trapped feeling and will just naturally feel better about things.

Black clouds need to be blown away! They're so energy draining, aren't they? I hope things pick up quickly for you. MTx
