Dodgy Martyn, dodgy.. Next you'll be pointing out that Cardiff have been promoted to the top division.

I'm pondering getting an EV but the coverage in Wales (particularly central Wales) is appalling, so I'd be unlikely to be able to reach many of those beaches with the sort of S/H electric vehicle I might get! Hope you're doing some local lobbying. :-)

Too silly to ignore. The UK is responsible for sea level rises!

Republican congressman explains sea-level rise: it's rocks falling into the sea
A member of Congress has suggested that the White Cliffs of Dover tumbling into the English Channel was causing rising sea levels.
He went on: 'What about the White Cliffs of Dover .... [and] California, where you have the waves crashing against the shorelines, and time and time again you have the cliffs crashing into the sea? All of that displaces water which forces it to rise, does it not?'

The problem is that most Americans actually believe this sort of rhetoric; if it comes from a Republican source, it must be true.
It's frightening that nobody does their own research over there now, but only because so many news sources are biased, and if they're not, then they get voted down as liberal, stealing our guns and our jobs leftist propaganda!

And apparantly the NHS is also the cause of expnsive drugs in 'Murica:

Mr Trump has claimed that the high costs faced by US patients are a direct result of other countries’ health services “freeloading” at America’s expense.

    It's quite scary really :(

    More on it here:-

Dumbest Man In Congress Blames Sea Level Rise On Rocks & Silt

The sad thing is, if I'm remembering my history correctly, that when Margaret Thatcher gave a speech on the importance of addressing AGW (then, climate change or global warming), there was little upset nor challenge.

It was only a few years later when the FF industries (particularly the American companies) started to pretend that the science was not agreed, that problems began, and delaying tactics rolled out.

The even sadder thing now, is that those Ff companies own internal research confirmed human CO2 driven warming, but they hid them. Recently they have been forced to reveal them by the courts, but it's a bit late now.

For those that still doubt, here are some very clear and to the point paragraphs:-

Can we get 100 percent of our energy from renewable sources?
In a review paper last year in the high-ranking journal Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, researcher Benjamin Heard and colleagues presented their case against 100 percent renewable electrical systems. They doubted the feasibility of many of the recent scenarios for high shares of renewable energy, questioning everything from whether renewables-based systems can survive extreme weather events with low sun and low wind, to the ability to keep the grid stable with so much variable generation.

Now, scientists have hit back with their response to the points raised by Heard and colleagues. The researchers from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and collaborators have analysed hundreds of studies to answer each of the apparent issues. They demonstrate that there are no roadblocks to a 100 percent renewable future.

    Bang -
"While several of the issues raised by the Heard paper are important, you have to realise that there are technical solutions to all the points they raised using today's technology," says the lead author Dr. Tom Brown of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

    Bang -
"Furthermore, these solutions are absolutely affordable, especially given the sinking costs of wind and solar power," says Professor Christian Breyer of Lappeenranta University of Technology, who co-authored the response.

    Bang -
Brown cites the worst-case solution of hydrogen or synthetic gas produced with renewable electricity for times when imports, hydroelectricity, batteries, and other storage solutions fail to bridge the gap during low wind and solar periods during the winter. For maintaining stability, there is a series of technical solutions, from rotating grid stabilisers to newer electronics-based solutions. The scientists have collected examples of best practice by grid operators from across the world, from Denmark to Tasmania.

    Bang -
Furthermore, these solutions are affordable, especially given the sinking costs of wind and solar power. The response by the scientists has now appeared in the same journal as the original article by Heard and colleagues.

    Bang -
"There are some persistent myths that 100 percent renewable systems are not possible," says Professor Brian Vad Mathiesen of Aalborg University, who is a co-author of the response. Our contribution deals with these myths one-by-one, using all the latest research. Now let's get back to the business of modelling low-cost scenarios to eliminate fossil fuels from our energy system, so we can tackle the climate and health challenges they pose," says Breyer.

Have to say it's refreshing to read something so clear and straight to the point.

    Lots of Drax news today.

    1. The aren't happy about the rollout of new interconnectors, suggesting these will import FF leccy, despite the sources having low carbon generation?

Power station boss warns against reliance on electricity imports

    2. They are looking at carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). I'm totally against this for FF generation as it adds costs, complexity and just means less CO2 from FF's are emitted (not none). But for bio-mass it makes a lot of sense as it leads to negative carbon emissions

CO2 goes into plants/trees from the atmosphere - biomass is burned releasing that CO2 again - some of that CO2 is then stored away.

So bio-mass operates on the short term carbon cycle (FF's are long term carbon cycle), but then add in CCS and you have a net benefit, something that is expected to be needed in the second half of this century as locked in atmospheric CO2 is already too high to avoid significant warming.

Drax power station to lead fresh carbon capture trial

I looked at the map at the top of that article and thought "hang on"..

Then in the last paragraph it referred to my doubts:

The firm building a new interconnector through the Channel tunnel rejected Drax!!!8217;s criticism, noting that countries such as Norway, Denmark and France were largely powered by hydro, wind and nuclear respectively.

Subsidy free on-shore wind, though a tiny caveat as it's via a PPA, so not selling directly to the grid / at wholesale prices ..... but, who cares!
