    2019's wi-wa-wombles! 10th Jan 19 at 9:02 AM
welcome to the wombling thread for 2019!

    Firstly what is wombling?
In the words of Bobarella, the founder of the earlier wombling threads:

Wombling is at its most basic level finding things. That you can use and someone else decided they couldn't. When I started this challenge in January of 2015, I used to Womble a lot of brand match coupons, these were just like finding money and I have no idea why people ever threw them away.
My initial idea was to try and find one thing each time I left the house that would make my life cheaper in some way. Roadkill (change found on the road, bus, self service till draw) is a great one for that. I find that I can usually find at least 1p per journey and although some people would say what's the point? Because I trained myself to look for coins as second nature I have found a lot of money over the years 84.20 in 2015, & 62.28 last year.
I often find useful big items left in the street outside people's houses with notes saying 'take me away' last year I even found a Hoover. I needed a new one so took it. This saves me quite a lot of money. My own wombling style is finder, but a lot of people Womble a lot of money by doing BOGOFFs. Or eBay buying.

YS shopping is worth a mention. If you are able to buy food with a huge mark down then that's a Womble.

Basically if you are able to make a saving in any way, including comping then that's a Womble. I don't have any strict rules for this challenge and quite often we just chat! So come on in and join the free fun.

    Bob

DD2 wombled a barb1e car . We went to the toyshop to spend her birthday vouchers, she went for the car which cost €54. I noticed the side mirror had broken off and mentioned it at the till. The gent said we could have for €10 if it still worked (dd was crying at this point, because she really wanted the car). He checked, and the remote control did not work, no other shops had it in stock, and he gave it to us for free dd did not care about the remote not working, she just wanted the car. I will screw/glue the mirror back 9n today, and will open up the car and remote this week to see if I can fix it.

My parents gave my daughters and me a five-day vacation on a Dutch island, including the train and ferry there and back. It was originally their vacation, but Mum had a small heart attack two months ago and is hesitant to be away from immediate emergency care for now. She is doing fine, and will go away on overnight stays, but not to an island where she would have to be helicoptered to a hospital. It was very expensive: €1,200. I would never spend this much, so I will count it for €400, which I would spend. The hotel gave dds a cuddly toy, and we were given 30 minutes of bowling. The hotel had its own pool, where we were the only swimmers almost every day, then on the last day the pool was closed and we were sent to the other hotel of the same chain, which had a subtropical pool.

Roadkill on the island €1 and €0,05.

I seem to have wombled a job I was not particularly looking for one, but a lady I know asked me to apply for the Assistant position in a new company she has started. I did, and got the job 90% (Wednesday afternoons off, which is halfday at primary school, where both dds attend). I started yesterday, and now my head is full

Roadkill this week: 10 cent coin, 1 cent coin.

Vegan pizza, free with voucher (beetroot crust with chestnut mushrooms topping; unexpectedly nice) 5,49

Butter (unopened packet), leftover from church brunch 1,49 (used to make two loads of angel cakes, for lunch boxes)

I don't seem to have mentioned them before, but in June I received my ecovouchers from my last job, to a value of 230 euros. With last year's and this year's vouchers from husband and me, we have bought an electric bicycle; we had to pay just 73 euros extra Work will reimburse me 23cents/km, which boils down to 4,28/day, or 21,40/week; so, within a month I will have my money back

    Hello lurkers!

35 loyalty points for buying at least EUR 7 of frozen items with a voucher

53 loyalty points from wombled receipts

DD1 had 3 H&M gift cards from her birthday, so we went shopping I remembered from somewhere that H&M will accept a shopping bag full of old clothes, and give you a voucher; details were fuzzy in my brain Anyway, I packed a regular bag full of old, worn, torn clothes and handed it in. The box in the shop said they accept textiles in any shape or form, as long as it's clean, and they gave me a '15% off 1 item' voucher. DD1 bought a fancy sweater, and received a EUR 2,52 discount. I also bought some socks for her, and paid with the gift cards, which are now finished. I will give her the money I spent on the socks for her piggybank. Why do 10&11-year olds give each other gift cards for birthday gifts?

1 handful of small lettershaped tea biscuits, set out for trial at supermarket; they were dd2's snack today €0,05
1 half-baguette with Italian filling, leftovers from business lunch €2 (which I was willing to spend on a snack from the machine, as I was still hungry after my lunch. It's probably from shock, because I was hit on my bike by a car last night, totally his fault and I'm a bit sore, but no major damage so far)

Unexpected 'Customer Appreciation Day' at the local supermarket, so me, Mum and Dad were each given a thin cotton reusable fuit-and-veg baggie with a bottle of beer and a bottle of water with a taste. What value shall I put on that? €3?

The swimming pool I took dds to this afternoon is part of a discount programme I have a card for, they are just not very vocal about it. Last time, I only noticed afterwards on their website, they never mentioned it or had any sign displayed. So, this time, I asked for it. The discount gets deposited on a type of savings card, and the discount made us reach the pay-out threshold, so the pool people immediately offered us a €10 moneyback on our entrance fee. A bit complicated to explain, but it worked and I'm very pleased.
