Stoptober 2015 Hub - Join the challenges and more 18th Sep 15 at 11:12 AM

    Hi everyone,

It's Stoptober! Cigarettes cost so much it's the perfect time to try giving up, with everyones' support! We have tons of ways to help you this year so join in and be a quitter!

Are you giving up smoking for Stoptober this year? Tell us!

Join the forum to join in

Al Murray (The Pub Landlord) is helping us out!!

It doesn't have to be a drag! The Pub Landlord AKA Al Murray has helped us out with some serious and, mainly, not-so-serious tips to distract you from the task at hand! The Pub Landlord Q&A.

    The Info

Here are some important links where you can find out more about Stoptober and how you can get involved. There's a free Stoptober starter pack to sign up for on their website which will help keep you on track

    Earn a Stoptober badge

This is a forum challenge so MSE Badger is totally involved. If you've still given up at the end of Stoptober and you've let us know in the poll thread above you'll get one of our fab 'Stoptober Survivor' badges

All you have to do to get it is make it through Stoptober and tell us how much you saved!

Track your progress - get your signatures ready!

From 1st to 28th October, keep track of your progress in your signatures, eg. "My Stoptober savings so far: 55". It should help keep you on track if you have a reminder of your savings each time you post!

Tell us when you've added your signature!

I'm in for this year, godknows how it will go (no support network for this and working in a place where literally everyone smokes) will be interesting.

Have never smoked but a big to everybody kicking the habit this October!

But put all that money you would have spent in October into a pot and see how much you have been paying out.

And don't forget ... Gov gets most of the money you pay out on fags as tax.

I quit smoking just over a month ago and moved onto e-cigs. I started on 24mg nicotine juices and have already stepped it down to 6mg so I've ordered 0mg juices for stoptober and I'll vape that to hopefully get me off nicotine altogether. Good luck to everyone taking part.

I did it last year as well and still not smoking. I never went into it expecting to stop altogether but when it came to the end of the challenge I just carried on!

I'm still vaping but I figure thats a lot better than the real thing.

Good Luck to everybody giving it a go - I didn't think I'd ever give up but it goes to show

No idea how much I have saved but it has to be a lot!

I spent 40 a week on cigs but only 5- 10 on vapes on average (depends on batteries etc)

The biggest difference I have noticed is that the cheap white wine I always drank now tastes vile and I've swapped to a more expensive Rose

I used the nicorette inhalator: had to at least pretend I was smoking with a cuppa outside the back door . Lots of fresh, chopped fruit to keep from screaming . And lots of walks, especially when its really tough and you JUST HAVE to go and buy 10 cigs - but thankfully the need goes when you get there .

I'm 3 years into being a non smoker. It's tough at first but after about a year I looked back & knew giving up was one of the best things I ever did. You think it's not affecting your health until you climb a lot of stairs a few months after giving up & realise you are not out of Breath like you used to be. It certainly damages your Wealth!

    Good luck all x
