Can you freeze soya milk? 26th Sep 04 at 8:05 PM
I've got a few blueberries I need to use up and thought of trying out a "healthy" dessert by blending blueberries, yogurt and soya milk and then freezing it.

Anyone know if you can freeze soya milk?

    Cheers all.

    Thanks for the reply.

I actually tried freezing it when I made the above dessert a couple of days ago (as I got no replies initially to my query). It actually turned out fine ... like a sorbet, though I've no idea how it would turn out if I tried freezing soya milk alone, probably horrible!

    Thanks again.

When I have frozen it on its own it kind of curdles and is too repulsive to eat when you have coated your shreddies in it!

My Mum tried freezing what I didn't eat when I went to visit and when I next went it was pretty gross. So no I wouldn't freeze it on its own, not sure if it is curdled, separated or what, it was wrong, believe me!

    1) Some soya is GM. Large areas of rainforest are deforested to turn the land over to soya farming.

    2) Soya is indeed tasteless and spongy. I used to use a tsp marmite to 1/2 pint boiling water to soak it before cooking which I found helped a lot. It needs to be cooked in a well flavoured stock or sauce. Use any of stock cubes/powder, tomatoe puree, spices, pepper, lemon juice or vinegar and mustard. I would tend not to consider it as a main ingredient. It's more something I'd use to bulk out a dish where vegetables provide the flavour. TBH I'd rather have lentils.

    3) Dunno. You'd have to compare the nutrition labels on the packets.

    Freezing soya milk?
    • #7

    Hi all!

Made and froze some veggie lasagnes on Friday and only used half a carton of unsweetened soya milk. Has anyone tried freezing this as I can easily use it for my next lot? There's nothing on the carton which specifies either do or don't and we tend to use sweetened for everything else.

    Thanks!

Me too - it kind of separates sometimes, but it does that if you heat it - I've never had a problem because of it.
