Onshore investment bonds - rationale...
I posted this on another thread earlier but as the title was just 'investments', I suspect it might get lost in the noise... I'm curious about onshore IBs attractiveness, even with reduced CGT thresholds. Given the 5% annual withdrawal limit to stay free of income tax - unless you're investing a large 6 figure sum (or…

I can find no information from that employment and am having difficulty in finding contact information to see if I am on their shareholder roll. Very new to all this any help would be appreciated.

I did think about sending some to the mortgage but the rate on that is 3.94% and I have a savings account that is…

Customer Service for Banks (e.g. Cynergy)
I think need to look harder at customer service and ease of use before recommending a banking/saving provider. I recently set up an ISA with Cynergy, good rate but very poor service. * One two occasions firstly 40 minutes then 30 minutes for them to answer the phone. * Offshore staff struggled to understand me (Northerner)…

NS&I Index Linked Savings Certificates - Renew or Possible Alternatives?
Have some NS&I Linked savings certificates coming up for renewal next month. I would have renewed but found out you now can't withdraw them until the fixed term ends. I might need to access that money before the new term would end, so this is a concern. Any suggestions what I could do with the money if I choose not to…

Personal Injury Trust - Skipton
Wondering if anyone has any advice on this. My mum received a lump sum of compensation from a Personal Injury claim. She receives benefits so was advised to put this money into a Personal Injury Trust so it wouldn't affect her benefits. She done this with Skipton. My mum lives at home with her partner and the house is…

VOTE now! Proposed take over of Virgin Money - Nationwide members should be given a vote
I'm really unhappy about Nationwide management running roughshod over their members (we the customers own the building society as it's a mutual), trying to push through a deal to buy Virgin Money. My quick take: * Nationwide management have proposed a takeover of Virgin Money * Terms of the deal have been agreed, but it is…

Confirmation of payee not used by some banks and building soceites
I am often concerned when I set up a bank transfer to an account with a building soceity to find that there is no confirmation of payee. It seems not all financial institutions have signed up to the scheme. Coventry Busilding Soceity and Yorkshire Building Soceity are two i know of who are not part of the scheme. Is anyone…

Locked out of Chip app
I've had to click on the forgotten PIN button, as I got paint on my hands so my fingerprint wouldn't scan, then put in the wrong PIN. How long until they respond? I got an email asking for my email and mobile number. Then nothing, for 3 hours...

Retirement income
Married man age 54 planning on retiring at 55. Disabled older wife on state pension only. Mortgage paid off. Is a retirement pot of £750,000 enough and the investment question is should I take out the 25% tax free lump sum and invest it somewhere. My pot is not doing too good at the moment.

University fees and savings
Hi, my children and I (ages 49, 16 and 12) received inheritance last year and we have put it into savings for my eventual retirement and for the children to be able to get onto the property ladder. My question is will these savings effect university grants and loans?

Assisting with tax through gov gateway
I have helped my elderly mother register an online tax account and she has requested me to be able to help her with her tax affairs via the online service. lower risk funds - and/or stop loss?
Probably a dumb question - and I'm certainly a beginner where it comes to funds - but I'll be looking to add more cash to my ISA's... (or near cash equivalents) in the next month, and I'm wondering if there is an alternative to cash that would beat an "easy access ISA"? I've looked at Royal London Short Term Money Market Y…

Moneybox cash isa
I opened a cash ISA with Moneybox just before the new financial year but the interest is not protected by the FSCS until it’s paid out on my one year anniversary. Moneybox say they'd be liable if they went under but will they or the FSCS cover the rest of the funds which are sitting the holding banks? If they go under they…
