Thames Water - Broken Meter, who is at fault?
Hi, We moved into our house in 2020 and the meter reading was 863. We pay £42 a month DD and at end of 2022 I decided to do a meter reading, it was still 863! The initial letter stated that we paid for the water we used according to the meter, which was obviously broken. Is it TW's fault for not checking for 2 years or…

Water bills - they never tell you but...
You can get a single person discount of 25% if you live alone. Definitely true of Thames Water and probably of others too.

Are you being overcharged too?
I just had my water bill and spotted that for some reason [ha-ha!] my provider has decided that since they put the price up I've been using more than 35% more water each day compared with the first part of the bill period, meaning they have charged me for more water than I actually used when it was more expensive and less…

Severn Trent radio meter
I've recently had a Severn Trent radio meter installed. For anyone with one, how long will it take for it to appear online (still says I don't have one) and how frequent do the readings get updated on your account portal? EDIT: my meter is now online

Water Smart Meter Fitted - but bill estimated - over estimated x4 actual dial reading
I had a supposedly Smart Water meter fitted late last Nov - not by request - and neighbors were upgraded a while back (I was told I was being skipped as I already had a recent new dumb meter cf others).Have just had my first full 6 month bill issued - by Severn Trent - which came with a large estimated usage. I am a low…

Sanity check on Direct Debit Affinity Water
I have just received a water bill for £110 covering seven months of usage (meter is outside and claimed to be read). I decided to set up a monthly direct debit but did not read the fine print and thought the set up was for one year, it was for seven months and was set as £30 per month. If the previous 7 months cost £110 ,…

Faulty Smart Water Meter
Hello. Can someone advise me please. Our road had smart water meters installed in October last year. I have recently opted to activate my meter. However, I know my meter is faulty and giving an incorrect reading. I have contacted Thames Water and they insist there is nothing wrong with my meter. The customer services…

SE Water
Hi I have just found out that SE Water have been billing me based on a four bedroom house. I only have two bedrooms. I am charged by rateable value as I can't have a water meter. Can I pursue a rebate? I have lived in my home for 35 years so this could be a considerable amount.

Thames Water delaying water meter
Thames Water installed our water meter in January 2022, but it still hasn't been activated. I contact them every 1-2 months and they tell me someone will be in touch in 10 working days but nothing has happened. The consumer council for water bill estimator suggests we could be saving £300+ a year by switching to a meter -…

Water meter illegible, options?
Our water meter is of an age where the clear plastic covering the numbers has degraded. It's become opaque and means we cannot read the numbers. (The outer metal box has badly degraded too, which does not help.) Our water company reports it's not causing a supply problem and the case closed without discussion. They are…

Thames Water Overcharged
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has been in this situation before and what steps they took to get out of it. My partner and I moved into a 1 bedroom ex council flat last year. When we set up out Thames Water account, we were advised by TWW that there was a meter at the property. I could only find one meter at the…

Thames Water in danger of collapsing: Should I pay my water bill now - or wait?
I received my six-monthly water bill from Thames Water a couple of days ago. I was about to pay it when I discover they are £14 billion in debt and may be put into a "special administration regime". This is Whitehall-speak for re-nationalising TW. Ministers weigh contingency plan for collapse of Thames Water - Sky News My…

Estimated water bill - business
The monthly payment for our water has increased from £122 per month to over £1,500pm. This is based on estimations. Apparently we are only allowed one meter reading per year and there is a backlog so this won’t be done before August. Castle Water refuse to allow us to pay the lower amount (which was reduced last year due…

reconciling metered water used and supplied
A block of flats has a meter on each flat. These meters are owned, and should be maintained, by the block. The total water measured by these meters is LESS than that supplied by the water company. The block management wants to recover the difference ,which is not unreasonable. However, the meters are owned by the block -…

Converted terrace, one water supply, two bills
I live in the ground floor of a converted Victorian terrace. Both myself and the upstairs flat have terrible water pressure (around 1.2 bars). I had a builder out last month to see if anything can be done and he said the problem comes from a single supply being shared by both flats. He also said we should have one bill,…

Replacing lead piping
We have lead piping under the floor boards in our Victorian house. After a leak in these pipes, our plumber has done a temporary fix and said that the water board will replace these lead pipes for free. Is this correct and do we contact Thames Water to sort this?. Many thanks

Reduce bill for single occupation?
Is anyone interested in this petition? It appears useful to people who live alone and do not want the hassle of having a water meter fitted?

United Ultities - I'm on UC, needed help - there is no 'Social Tarrif'
Been up-to-date with bills, no having problems. Rang United Utilities. They said because I'm up to date with payments they can't help. They can reduce my payments but it gets carried over. There is no social tarriff. So all they are doing is giving me a loan every month when the remainded of what I owe is carried over and…

Another way to save on water bills?
Climate change has changed rainfall patterns with (largely) milder wet winters and dry, if not hot, springs and summers. With increasing fresh food prices, many people have become tempted to "grow your own". Drier springs and summers place increasing pressure on those "gardeners", even if they are only using balconies or…

I have to pay £1,500 to get my water pipe replaced. Do I actually have to pay?
All the neighbours got a letter saying a leak has been detected and if we don't pay the £1,500 to replace the entire supply pipe, they will get a warrant from the court to do so and leave us with the bill. My issue is that a leak has been detected, but they can't specify where. I accept I'm responsible for the pipework on…
