Household income and benefits
Both my parents have been diagnosed with Parkinsons' and Dementia, while it is early days yet I am keen to understand if we will have issues with making any care claims in the future or benefits. I am lucky enough to live on the same property as my parents with my husband and two children so technically while we live in…

Stuck in a name-changing loop with HMRC
My wife is trying to change her name with HMRC. She has gone to this government web-site, and signed in using Government Gateway, which requires her to prove her identity. She cannot prove her identity, because the name listed by HMRC is different from the name on her passport and driving licence. So she's in a genuine (I…

Tax credit overpayment from 2006?
I have just opened a letter from HMRC demanding repayment of tax credits I was apparently overpaid in 2006. I have no bank records from then, I shredded all correspondence in 2018/19 when I moved house thinking it was all sorted. Is it right that HMRC can suddenly demand repayment 18 years later?

Child benefit entitlement
Is there a simple comprehensive calculator for what is included in the (now) £60-80,000 threshold for losing child benefit. If I pay pension before taxable pay calculated, is that included? How about charity donations including church tithe? Do I need to get a receipt from the charity? Or is it declared based entirely on…

Tax Credits to UC - in person identity checks only?
We are in the midst of the painful process of migrating from TC to UC. Turns out UC stopped using this in January but all their info on the website says that…

How to stop Working Tax Credits.
I have a relative whom I have been helping with their HMRC Working Tax Credit issues. This person was receiving Working Tax Credits, but I knew from conversations with this person that they were due to receive a promotion, which would mean that as they are already near the limit on their WTC entitlement, if the WTC were…
