Egg automated transaction check call
Got a phone call this morning from a withheld number, the voice sounded automated and I did think to hang up but having heard it was Egg and they had my name and number I thought it was worth listening too. Well it was asking me to confirm some recent transactions and while I was expecting a payment to be taken for around…

Newbie question
Hi all, I was just wondering if it was possible to get a credit card on a 0% deal, empty it completely and put the money into a high interest savings account, then when the 0% deal ends, put all the money back on the credit card to pay it off. Would the lump sum withdrawal be seen as a purchase? Basically, I'm a little…

Can Cap 1 renege on a life of balance deal??
I've had a life of balance transfer deal with Capital 1, 0.323% a month (about 3.9% p.a. I think) since Feb 04. Have never used the card and just kept paying off the £5,000 balance. All was well till August this year when Capital 1 wrote to say balance transfers were going up. I rang them to say "wait a minute, what about…

A cautionary tale about MBNA
I signed up for an Alliance & Leicester card about a year ago to clear some debt I had at 0% for the year. I discovered when the card came that it was actually MBNA. I'd heard some nightmare stories surrounding them, however since the card was on 0%, I thought I'd keep with it. Last month, I was unfortunately two days late…

Homebase 0, Me, 1
I don't normally on principle use store cards, but the bloke in Homebase just wouldn't go away and clearly wanted one more sale to make his daily target and presumably substantial bonus. So I got one didn't I, and used it. Of course there were all sorts of money saving offers on the basis of delayed repayment and lower…

Homebase Store card opened without me applying - how do I complain?
In May, I saw from my Credit Expert account that I had allegedly opened a Homebase store card. Having looked into the dates and tracking back receipts, I realised that this was the day that I was handed a reward card when buying some paint. I was told to sign a form and complete my name and address. When I phoned to query…

just turned down for GE Crdeit Card recommended by Martin
Hi, After receiving Martin's email newsletter I applied for the GE Credit Card and was very surprised to be turned down  My HSBC card at 0% interest (debt 5k) expires November 15th so I am looking now to switch cards - I was obviously willing to pay their £50. fees so at least I had 12 months rather than faffing…

Egg Anniversary Period
Hi All. My anniversay period if coming up and in anticipation of this I emailed Egg. They have told me that there is now a 2.5% handling fee with no upper limit. Mine is one of the cards taken out about 18 months ago. Does this mean the Egg CC and the anniversay period is now of no benefit to me. Thanks.

Chargeback from Credit Card

Time between cancelling/applying
I currently have a Northern Rock/Co-Operative Bank credit card, but am planning to cancel it since they will be introducing a £2 monthly fee. I was turned down for a credit card last year, which was probably down to my low income. So if I cancel my current card, how long should I leave it before applying for another one?…
