DLA child - low rate - autism - getting worse
Hi, So I have a child, 15yrs old with autism, It took many years to get her officially diagnosed due to falling on deaf ears, about 3 or so years ago after it finally being sorted we then claimed and received DLA, at the low rate. At the time, we were relieved it was sorted, and just grateful to have had it finalised (and…

I did…

Hypothetical question: Disabled Facilities Grant - What happens if a person passes away mid work
Hello. I hope it's okay to ask this hypotetical question here. It's a question I've wondered about for many years and a friend was almost in this situation earlier this year. We were talking about it earlier and wondered what would be the result if the following were to happen. Last year my friends mother had a fall and…

Mum's care needs
Hello, I would really appreciate some advice if possible. I can't seem to get answers anywhere. My mum was in a nursing home previously but they said they couldn't look after her because she needs constant supervision and had injuries all the time, and that it would cost double. The social worker at the time said the extra…

SMI query - impact elsewhere?
Hi all We're going through the process of claiming SMI due to my partner's MS - no issues with local council sending out the paperwork. When we've visited the MS specialist at the hospital, they would sign the form but weren't happy to until we'd checked that by claiming the SMI reduction, it wouldn't have an impact…

Dementia- ongoing fraud on bank accounts
My Mum has dementia and I have just become an attorney under her LPA. No Carers unless the person is on benefits
Long story short. I find it absolutely ridiculous that you cannot claim carers allowance…

Disabled road tax
Both my wife and myself have disability (standard mobility) As I understand we are both able to get 50% road tax off. However, we share the same car. If the car is my name, I can get the 50% off tax but then she cannot drive it? Even though she is also eligible to the same 50% off tax?

TV Licence for the Old and Disabled
I was recently shocked to learn that my Dad is paying for his TV licence, as he is 82 years old and registered disabled. Apparently because he is on disability benefits rather than pension credit he doesn't qualify for a free licence, this can't be right surely?

Selling as-new (behind the ear) hearing aids
Just wondering if there is a market for nearly new (behind the ear) hearing aids out there, and if so, where the best place is to sell them (and if there are any restrictions) My Mum bought new 2 Phonak behind the ear hearing aids for over £3k in October 2021, and she passed away unexpectedly in January 2022, so they have…
