Green manure help needed
I have recently taken over a half plot allotment, overgrown at the moment, which has heavy clay soil. I hope to have six separate beds on the site. I would like to sow some green manure on the beds after I have dug them over, added some grit and manure, and prepared them as best I can. If this is a good idea could anyone…

House Flies - But are they??
Hi - I've looked, but can't see that this partiular subject has been posted before, so my apologies if it has. And I so hope someone has some advice here.... My really quite ancient neighbour (93, bless her!) has a problem infestation with dozens of small brown (different shades, but all quite lightish colours) of flying…

What to sow now.......
We've just moved house and have inherited a small ready-dug veg plot (about 8'x10', I reckon). I'm after some advice for things we can plant now that we can harvest during the winter, before the spring crops start. I don't think I'll bother with spuds for the time being and I don't fancy Swiss Chard: I'm told it takes over…

Aquired Swan Breadmaker with no instructions
Hello, I'm hoping someone may be able to help with this one........ We received a Swan Auto fastbake Breadmaker (no model number) from a neighbour but they had no instruction manual / recipe booklet - it has lots of settings so I assume you don't really need instructions but I though that the recipe booklet would be…

Hi there - Ive been inspired to grow something and just wondered if you could offer any suggestions for something that could be started at this time of year - I dont have a garden so it would have to be something that could be started on a windowsill or moved to a grow bag/pot or planter. Spearmint in a Pot
I have some spearmint growing in a pot. When I first planted it, it was a lovely green colour and was great for food decoration. Now it isn't so vibrant and looks sad. Can anyone tell me - if I cut it right back will it come up again (maybe next year) or should I give up on this one and start again with a new plant?

Any Oak Tree specialists out there?
One of our huge oak trees has fallen over. It must be 100 years old. It has been uprooted (roots are about 20ft across), and the tree trunk must be 4-5ft wide. Its such a shame, not just because of the gap it will leave, but the fact that it must have been there for such a long time. I'm not really sure what to do.…

Just to let you all know....I went to Wyevale garden centre near Rothley (near Leicester) yesterday, and they were selling seeds at 50p per packet. Wyevale garden centres all usually operate the same so you may want to check the one nearest to you too.

How to keep fresh flowers fresh?
Hi. I'm hoping someone can tell me how to keep fresh cut flowers fresh for as long as supermarket bought ones. I love the little sachets of stuff that you add to the water but can't buy them on their own. What goes into them? I'd like to make my own flower food but have no idea where to start. Thanks for any help

Don't give it away to your council - earn green clubcard points!
I've noticed that the "high-tech" recycling machines are becoming more common, but alot of people still don't realise they are missing out on clubcard points when they recycle. What's the deal? If you swipe your clubcard before depositing your recycling, Tesco will give you 1 green clubcard point for every 4 items.…

Help, asbestos on my new allotment plot
I posted on here approx in June. I took on a 2nd allotment (very overgrown which they charged me full price for) and i had found a pile of asbestos at the back of my allotment under brambles (which the previous allotment holder knew about). I spoke to the allotment secretary who said her husband had the equipment, thru his…
