What happens when my house is worth less than what I owe?
People say that if house prices are going down then you have only lost money on it if/when you come to sell it.... Well what if you need to renegotiate a new mortgage deal (of which there aren't any good ones anymore) My situation is this: I have a 5 year fixed rate (5.57%). still got 4 years left on that deal. Mortgage…

It's a sweet little two-bedroomed terraced, for which I owe my mum £20000 and the bank £40000 (well, not exactly, but those are the rough amounts) I'm on a flexible mortgage, thanks to some good advice from my financial…

Where to start?
Hi guys, I have been a lurker on this site for a while and am always impressed by how motivated and responsible people on here are. I'm 2 years into a 35year mortgage term with just under 120k to go. It just seems an unattainable target to become MF and wondered how you all got started? Just signed up to get internet…

Put my mind at rest please.
Hi guys, your census of opinion would be greatly appreciated with this please. I had a property with no mortgage in an area which was becoming more of a hell hole as the years went by. I eventually sold it as opposed to renting it out, I am now renting and know you can't change history but wonder if i made the right choice…

Having to lower my MFW hopes...
My temporary contract at work is coming to an end in the next couple of months. Boo! Ah well, I knew it never a permanent thing and given that I was only supposed to be there 12 weeks and that was almost a year ago I've not done bad out of it. But now it means I'll not be able to save as much towards overpaying as we'll be…

overpaying v offsetting
(I posted this on the mormal mortgage thread but im not sure its the best place for it) I want to try and explain why, in certain circumstances, I think it’s better to not pay off your mortgage. The part of the forum I have read so far seem to like the idea of paying off your mortgage – so if I offend anyone then I…
