Barclays mortgage valuations... which company?
Does anyone know what company Barclays use for their property valuations, and whether I (as the customer) would have any say in who goes out? The reason, I'm buying a new build and the developer won't allow Connells on site (because of their reputation to downvalue - which I understand). I've had a mortgage application in…

Own New Mortgages
Has anyone taken out an Own New Rate Reducer Mortgage and if so what was your experience? It seems like an absolute no brainer with the current market mortgage rates and I was surprised to find it has not been covered yet by Martin or anyone at MSE. For those wondering what it is, when you buy a new build house from…

Mortgage broker - ask me anything
Thought I would start a thread where people can ask the brokers opinion on things @ACG @LRmortgage @kingstreet @Deleted_User (any other brokers want to chip in - these were the main other brokers who came to mind. It is definately an interesting market - probably the busiest I have ever been but at the same time lenders…

No more fix as the end is nigh!
My fixed rate ends July of this year and I've taken advantage over the last 2 years of making the full 10% overpayment. I will have 4 years remaining. Bank have now written to reduce my payments so I remain in the 4 years to pay it back. Nice to have that extra money but even nicer to have the whole amount to play with…

Kensington
Second lot of questions from Kensington Mortgages, nothing sinister.. asking for proof of deposit and confirmation of freehold… however they have asked about childcare costs and for current landlords details. Parents remortgaging issue
I’ll try and keep this short. My parents (aged 67 and 70, neither work) need to remortgage and are unable to find a lender willing to borrow them enough as they say their income isn’t high enough. They are short by about 35-40k. Several years ago they had to move to an interest only mortgage due to a change in income,…

Cash advance credit card before mortgage
Hello I need some advice please and hopefully no judgement. I used my credit card through PayPal to send £4000 to a friend of mine over 6 different payments as I was purchasing several items from him for my business. Little did I realise but Barclays classed these is a “cash like” transaction and charged me fees and marked…

Help to buy - home improvements
Hi everyone I currently have a help to buy mortgage which I took out two years ago. Remortgage / Partner Buyout
We have a court order according to which family home will be on my partners name upon releasing me from mortgage and payment of some lumpsum to me. Buying parent's house - rules around occupancy/rent
My parents are separating (ages 77 and 74). The plan is for my mum to stay in the family home, which is owned out-right with no mortgage. The circumstances of the separation are extremely acrimonious and our father will effectively be estranged from the family following this. He needs to release some money to buy a new…

Fix for 2 years or 5 years
Hello, Looking to buy a home for 325,000 with 230K deposit; first-time buyer. Mortgage advisor says a 2 year fixed is higher interest than a 5-year - which is usually the other way around, but suggests lenders are confident that rates will be lower than the rate offered. however, this is just a 'prediction'. I am not sure…

Would one late credit card payment affect chances of getting a mortgage?
My partner and I are looking to buy our first home. We were checking our credit reports yesterday and found that my partner had one credit blip 2 years ago where they made a late credit card payment (~£30). This is the only mark on their credit report, and their credit score is currently excellent. I don't have any blips…

Changing mortgages terms
Last year and this year I have made mortgage overpayments of just under 10%. My next mortgage renewal is July 2025. I got a letter from Halifax saying they are reducing my monthly payments by about £70. I phoned to say I don't want that and they say I have to have a mortgage review to reduce my terms. My term is 11 years…
