Opting out
My sincere apologies as this has probably been asked before. As soon as my current job became stable (contract changed from fixed term to indefinite/permanent) I set up a stakeholder pension with Scottish Widows which I have paid into every month for the past 8 years. I had an appointment with an IFA about 18 months ago…

Pension or ISA
For someone who already has some pension built up, final salary, AVC's and a stakeholder, it's probably worth staying in the auto enrol scheme when it starts next year, but is it better to pay into ISA rather than a stakeholder for any excess? The current pensions, state and new pension would likely be over personal…

Auto enrolment and part time workers not paying tax
The company I work for have told us that we will all be autoenrolled very soon. The majority of the staff in our store work 20 hours per week on nmw and don't earn enough to pay tax. This includes myself. It was my understanding after reading the flyers that this auto enrollment only applied to those earning over ~£7.5k.…

Auto Enrolment for agency workers

Go for index linked income or invest lump sum
Hi, I am 55 and about to retire. My final salary pension has a lump sum of £50 000, I can take £25 000 of this to increase my annual income by £2 000- this is index linked. That to me sounds like a good deal! I Know I am over simplifying things but would investing the lump sum give a better return?

Is it worth it?
I am 50 years old now, is it really worth me joining the auto-enrolment pension scheme at my age?

Is this legal/allowed?
Here's a scenario: An employer with 100 staff wants to start 'auto-enrolment' now. They intend, as a firm, to opt out of the actual auto-enrolment and start a GPP. The question is, the firm want to offer their staff an increase in salary equal to employee contributions (1% in year 1). However, if the staff decide not to…

Forced into Company scheme!
I have been employed since 2007, and had a employers contribution of 7.5% gross written into my original contract. Our company has been taken over twice, the last time was in 2011 and was an asset purchase. This employer has now asked me to contribute into their scheme - minimum 3% to enable me to continue to receive this…

Retail Distribution Review and Personal Pension Plan
I wonder whether how many other MSEers with NFU Mutual personal pension plans have received the letter dated October 2012 from NFUM stating that the current NFU With Profits Personal Pension Plan will close to new subscribers as from 31 Dec 12, and that existing subscribers will be limited to making regular payments at the…

Salary lowered due to pension? (not nec. sacrifice)
I have to admit to not having read the details on workplace pensions (they don't apply to me!) but it will apply to Marley-BIL and the small firm for which he works eventually. I understand that minimum % contributions will be 8% (split between employer, employee & government-SMART-tax-wriggle thingie). Marley-BIL has said…
