Adding an EV charger - existing PV setup
Hi all I am looking for some guidance regarding some EV chargers to add to my home to supplement my PV setup. Here’s what I have so far: SolarEdge inverter Growatt AC management box Growatt battery So far I’ve received some quotes to supply and fit a Zappi. Some installers would go straight into my consumer box. Some…

Are single use dehumidifiers a good idea
For years I've used the aero360
dehumidifiers, now I see that places like Asda have these
one-use-only types & I bought one to test. The instructions say it has to
be thrown away as a unit - presumably that means it's money saving but not
planet saving? Are there any technical reasons it's better? Thanks for any pointers!

Solar and battery storage option
I have had a few quotes, and as much as I like the Tesla (or similar) battery solution, I cannot see enough advantages for this as it significantly increases the ROI. I have a west-east-facing roof with a little shade from surrounding trees. One quote that I am interested in is 12x 435 Jinko Panels with 12 tigos, 2x 5.12…

EV Charging losses and Vampire drain.
This topic was touched on in a recent exchange on the BEV thread but I felt it would be worthwhile having a separate thread as other issues were overshadowing it. When I first got an EV I didn’t have a wall charger and just used a granny plug (230v, 2.3kW I think) and never took much notice of charging cost. I would just…

Octopus - combining Tracker with Outgoing Fixed (15p)
According to Octopus - whose customer service people don't seem to have a clue when it comes to anything remotely related to energy from solar panels - it's not possible to be on the Tracker tariff as well as Octopus Outgoing Fixed. This clearly states otherwise:…

The Alternative Green Energy Thread
In an attempt to maintain harmony on Martyn1981’s Green, Ethical, Energy issues in the news thread, Mart and I have agreed that I will no longer contribute to that thread but instead start a separate thread which Mart has agreed not to participate on. The intention of the thread is that green energy issues can be discussed…

Green & Ethical Investment News and Suggestions
This is a subject that crops up occasionally on multiple threads, so I thought it might be useful to have a thread where we can share both news and also investment ideas that we find. I've noticed that many schemes are as financially attractive as other general investments, so there's no penalty in targeting your monies…

Solar panels- advice needed
I've managed to obtain some quotes for solar panels and a battery. I typically use around 2600 kWh/year, no EV at the moment but this can change at some point. I would greatly appreciate advice on whether the quote I'm considering is reasonable (as it seems quite pricey to me) and whether solar installation makes sense in…

Opinions please
I am having this fitted to a flat roof very soon. The panels are to lie at a shallow angle and whilst I know that this could reduce efficiency it will be more than made up for by the extra 4 hours of sun the roof receives over the house roof, which incidentally isn’t big enough owing to dormer windows on the southern…

Help with reading meter for export
Hi all, hoping someone can help as I can't find out much via Google. We had panels installed last Dec, switched to Octopus as British gas wouldn't put in a smart meter, then signed up to octopus export end of Feb, they've finally sorted it but need a manual meter read for the first reading. But our meter isn't on their…

EPC
I attended an EPC assessment today. Happened to mention I was planning a heat pump this year. The assessor said they would reduce the assessment score for electric heating because "most electricity comes from gas". I mentioned that last quarter more electricity came from wind than gas: " that's because some gas turbines…

Solar Panel, Inverter, Battery prices over last six months
Hi, Our installation has been stalled for months due to stupid design errors by the installer. Soon, figers crossed, we may be able to move on. Over the last say six months have solar panel etc prices gone up, or have cheaper versions been launched? We were talking about Solaredge with Q-cells panels but given the history…

Solar install as part of ECO4 grant
Hi all, We are looking at a potential solar install as part of an ECO4 grant (also including ASHP and added insulation). I have a separate thread on the heat pumps forum for that side, but wanted to learn more about the solar side here. We have been quoted (very limited details so far) for 8 x 434W panels and a 3.6kW…
