How much to put window in garage? - Bedfordshire
Hi there. We had the front of our Garage converted a few years ago, using the first third of it to give us a large hallway. We now want to convert the remaining garage area into a gym. We have someone lined up to do the floor, walls and ceiling but we need to have a window fitted to comply with building regs. How much can…

rendering quote.
Due to blown render and some penetrating damp, had a quote from a damp company for removal of render and re-rendering externally - 85 sq metres and 16 angles (bays windows x2). £5,525. This does not include scaffold or painting finished render. Does this seem a reasonable quote - reckons it is a 2 week job. Thanks Live in…

Damp Proof Course needed
I have moved back into my old house which I had let out for 2 1/2 yrs. During the tenancy my tenant complained of damp so I had one wall 'covered' as a temporary measure as another company said I needed a damp proof course and this would involve hacking off all plaster and once work complete would have to be left for six…

Conservatory
We are thinking about having a conservatory built to give us a bit more space/get away from kids! We would particularly like it to have a glazed roof rather than polycarbonate so it seems the usual Wickes/B&Q DIY options are ruled out. Does anybody know of any alternatives to the big double glazing companies? My OH is…

Bathroom re-tiling quote
We live near Croydon on the outskirts of South London and need the slate tiles pulled from the walls of our bathroom in our loft conversion as they are too heavy for the walls and the movement is causing all the joins to constantly crack. As a result we want the shower screen, radiator, shower, toilet, and basin taken out,…

poll tax demand after 14 years
Help please. My partner has just received a demand from a collection agency for nearly £500. Can this debt still stand or can we challenge it due to the length of time. He has not heard…

Fitting a "real" fire.
We've been quoted £420 for fitting a fireplace. All that needs to be done is for the cast iron back bit to be put in and the gap at the back filled with mortar with a little slope on it to make sure that soot rolls into the fireplace rather than falling down the back. The hearth is already in. What would you charge/pay?
