I am on the Virgin 2mb DSL (i.e. cabled) broadband. I know that ADSL broadband can be slower than the advertised speed due to "contention ratios", but does the same apply to cabled broadband? I thought cabled broadband was a single cable per user. I only ask as I have just measured my connection and it just under…

BT Broadband - TalkTalk still worse, but only just..
I love Bt Broadband's policy on rural broadband. If it looks a bit "iffy" and they have to send out an engineer, "No, you can't get broadband in that area" Not withstanding the prospective customer has a daughter next door and has BT Broadband herself. So AOL rung, "No problem, we'll sort it", and they will.. I know this…

Virgin Broadband Helpline tip
I have just had a bad experience with Virgin Media Broadband (surprise) but one good thing came out of it which might be of help to others. If you phone the help line (25p per min.) between 8pm and 8am, you will be connected to the off-shore call centre, which can be expensive in terms of time spent trying to understand…

Discount available for existing Virgin broadband customers
I noticed Virgin were offering new customers £10 a month broadband for a year. As an existing customer I thought it quite unfair, so I gave them a ring asked about discount for existing customers. The guy straight away offered me half price (£9 a month) for 3 months. I still wasn't happy so he said ring again when the 3…
