Solar batteries
Hi All what if any experience have people had with Solar batteries. ?? I already have solar panels on my roof , and have had a quote for a battery pack to be fitted along side my monitor in my store. I currently export excess electric to the grid. The company that is quoting me already services the system. This setup would…

Backboiler newbie
Hi, If all goes to plan we're buying a house with a backboiler in an open fire (Dunsley solid fuel central heating boiler) vendor tells us it heats water and radiators too. There's also oil fired central heating for when the fire isn't in use. I know zero about backboilers, so would be interested to hear what people think…

The infamous Alternative Fuel Payment
I never did get this, despite having used LPG for the last 26 years. The reason turned out to be that my property (or a version of its address) was incorrectly recorded as having a mains gas supply. It took me 6 months to get this error corrected and when it eventually was it was a day before the scheme finally closed…

Cost Saving of Wood Burner (kw/h gas consumption reduction v's cubic meters of wood burnt).
I am considering the pro's and cons of getting a wood burner fitted to offset the cost of gas central heating (which I intend to keep). The only option I have available to me is an inset wood burner, as opposed to a free standing one. The inset wood burner would be installed into the space vacated by our old gas simulation…

Coal Bunker
I burn around 250kg of solid fuel each winter. The bags do not look attractive when stored in the back garden and I find it inconvenient to shovel the fuel into the coal skuttle. I have space at the side of the house to install a bunker. What are the pros and cons of bunkers and does anyone know of a suitable size, make…

How much is LPG gas now on average.? 2023.
When I ask suppliers they avoid a trueful answer its all about how long they can hold us and then continue to increase the lpg gas as they go along, I am realy looking at other forms of heating fed up with this strangled hold on us, I know we all feel same.

Multi fuel back boiler taking ages to heat up
I've had a multi fuel stove with back boiler installed and connected to my hot water and central heating. It works 8 radiators and was told the stove was more than enough for this number. It's taking almost 2 hours for the pump to kick in and heat the radiators. I've used just wood and then tried using coal and still takes…

BAXI ECOGEN gas boiler micro chp
Does anyone out there have one of these? I had one installed in 2011. There were problems with it, and it was replaced in 2013. I had a maintenance contract with Baxi, that included an annual service. But when I phoned to make an appointment for this year's service in july, They told me they had cancelled the contract…

Calor - what is going on? (Online account system unavailable for 3 months now)
We have bulk LPG supplied by Calor. We got a letter in May to say Calor Account Online (where we see our bills, next delivery date, etc) would be offline for a couple of weeks for a system upgrade. It's still offline! They just keep saying "It's taking longer than we'd hoped." I've worked on big IT projects and if one had…

MSE News: Government tweaks £200 Alternative Fuel Payment scheme criteria - check if you can get it
More households using heating oil, LPG, biomass and other alternative fuels can now apply for £200 to help with their energy bills. Aircon servicing
Hi I had my multi split aircon installed just under two years ago and was wondering about annual servicing. The company sends out a reminder each year but not sure if it needs it. There’s an issue with one of the indoor air handlers dripping when used in cooling mode/hot weather. It’s mostly used in heating mode though…

CALOR won't respond to me or create an account... what now?
Posted on here a little while ago... basically I moved into my house in May and I have a CALOR owned and supplied LPG tank, previous owner cancelled their direct debit and told them they were moving etc got confirmation on their end. I filled in their movers form, said I'd moved in and I'd like some info on their pricing…

CO2 Emissions from Wood Fuel
This site was linked to from another discussion. Looking at it I saw this amazingly ill informed article about wood fuel. They are seriously saying that gas produces less CO2 than wood! https://www.theecoexperts.co.uk/blog/log-burners-environment

Change from oil to electric without getting ripped off?
Our oil tank is leaking. Apparently its position doesn't comply with the latest safety regulations, so putting a new tank in somewhere else will be ridiculously expensive (ground work, fireproof barriers, etc). We've thought about taking this opportunity to change from oil to electricity (there is no gas supply). My…

Price rise lpg
All I seem to hear about is mains gas! I live in a very rural area without any mains gas and the lpg companies have a captive audience. Does the price cap not apply to them?

Flogas price going up even though fixed
Hi, Can anyone help with how LPG works please? My parents moved into house with LPG last year. They joined flogas as were previous company. They are paying 86ppl and entered a fixed 2 year contract. Flogas are now saying they're putting it up to 95ppl! Saying "they need a little more to keep things going!" Can they do…

Beware Boiler Juice
"You pay £286.25" says the email in bold orange type, echoing the heating oil price quoted on Boiler Juice's website quotation a few minutes before. But wait a minute. The website quotes a price of 52.24 per litre. Now my maths can be shaky at times but 500 x 52.24 doesn't make £286. Is it the extra a VAT charge? No. It's…

PV v Monocrystalline Solar Panels
Hi I've someone coming over tomorrow to discuss and quote on solar panels. Can anyone advise if there is any real tangible difference between the energy produced by PV panels and monocrystalline panels throughout the seasons of the year including the dull dark winter/autumn months? I know the guarantee period for them both…
