Wanting to start work but worried about losing LCWRA
Hello all, it's been several years since I finally received a ruling from the tribunal that I was to be treated as LCWRA. I was struggling with depression coupled with autism. They awarded me 21 points in total for LCW but also said that I was LCWRA because "if he were found capable of work related activities, this would…

Help required for understanding my mothers council tax bill
My elderly mother moved on to pension credit in September last year and the last payment she needed to make was that same month. Since then she has not been charged anything. I can't work out from this if she is paying something from perhaps credit she has had on the account, or if she doesn't need to pay anything now. Can…

UC Inheritance concerns
I am currently working and getting a top up of UC. I could not survive and be able to work without the UC. However I have some concerns regarding an inheritance I may get in the future. My mum died many years ago. My dad met a new partner a short time later. They have not married. My dad has told me that he has written his…

Changed my estimated earnings and tax credits went up?
Just happened to see on my tax credits account my predicted earnings were from 2014 on the website, it’s kinda odd because when the renewal comes out every year it matches my P60 from the previous year perfectly. Anyway as I say the estimated earnings were about 4k too low so I updated them thinking I was gonna lose money…

Old Style CBESA Reporting Changes - Real Changes or Poorly Worded DWP Letter?
I've been a long-term claimant of the old style CBESA & PIP since I tool ill-health retirement around 8 years ago. I'm in the support group & don't expect to move out of it (unless DWP deem me cured) I've never claimed any housing-related costs. I receive an occupational pension & every financial year I inform ESA about…

Do the new changes to Child Benefit only affect future payments?
Hi my partner claims Child benefit, and as I earn £70K I pay it back yearly from my tax. Our combined house income is £75000, so the new changes will be of benefit to us for sure. I just wanted to check, I am about to start paying back last years Child benefit payment from my tax. Do the new limits coming into force only…

ESA vs Universal Credit?
Hello everyone, I would very much appreciate some help and advice on the following. Approximately 6 years ago I was awarded the support element of Employment and Support Allowance and currently receive £298.10 every 2 weeks. I have a friend who is in exactly the same circumstances as I am in regarding his health issues,…

Benefit uprate
Hello, I am worried as I don‘t know what to do as not done this before (sorting out benefit rises on UC). I have had no letters yet about my contribution based ESA rates for 2024/2025 but think they are now in force. This has now worried me as I migrated to UC from Tax Credits and I don‘t know when to tell them and how…

Support for Mortgage Interest and lifetime mortgage/equity release
I am getting no consistent advice re: my situation with SMI and remortgaging. I currently have an interest-only mortgage which becomes due next year. I am currently on JSA and will not be able to pay back the capital. So, I am taking out a lifetime mortgage with roll-on interest. This will allow me to pay off the first…

Restarting child benefit query
As the child benefit rules changed on 6th April, I would like to restart my child benefit payments. There is a form online to restart payments which says you only need to put in details for 1 child, not all children, but our second child was born after the HICBC was introduced so we have never claimed child benefit for…

Opting back into Child Benefit - can I claim for previous year?
A while ago I opted out of child benefit but now want to opt back in, can I claim for previous years or can I only do it going forwards? I get confused by the Gov website but I understand that the threshold has increased as of this month, I assume that only applies for April 24 onwards?

Looking for advice. If a student married couple are expecting a child, what benefits would they be entitled to? They live in Scotland, she will have completed her 4 year degree by the time the baby arrives. She has worked the summers of her time in study. He has another year to go before he finishes his degree. He will…

Capital reduction for LCRWA recipients
As I understand it, the capital reduction is effectively £4.35 reduction for every £250 of capital above £6000 up to £16000, which effectively means that the maximum deduction is £10000/250 = 40, 40 x £4.35 = £174 which would leave someone who had £15,750 savings with a UC of £393.45 - (39*£4.35) = £223.80. Presumably £1…

Booking UC commitments meeting
I started a claim for UC yesterday and the online system told me to phone to book a commitments meeting, which I did. The advisor asked about my availability then said she'd requested an appointment for me, I'd be sent it through my journal and I could reply there to rearrange if the date/time wasn't suitable. I haven't…

Won my PIP appeal! What's next?
Hi, I won my PIP tribunal in Bradford the other day! So, so glad! It was stopped April 23, MR just gave 6 points up from 0 so still didn't qualify and had to go to tribunal. I was previously on enhanced care and standard mobility and had been on DLA previously since 2009. It should never have been stopped in the first…

Requesting a 50% refund for already-paid road tax.
To cut the story, short, I applied online to renew my road tax, for which I am eligible for a 50% reduction because of PIP. I made the mistake of paying the FULL amount online. I am now unable to locate any information about how to get my 50% returned. Any ideas?

Pension Credit - Change of Circumstances
Hi, does anyone know if there are PC delays in responding to reporting a Change of Circumstance? I wrote to both the PC office and the Council Tax office in mid-Feb to inform them of my partner's new p/t income, albeit a temporary 3-month contract. I haven't heard anything from either of them since, but I have proof of…
