Can / should he get a mortgage?
A close friend has been given £30k by his parents to use as a deposit on a house. He's always rented before. He's looking to buy a house at about £120k, but officially only earns about £15k per year as he's self-employed , so presumably would find it difficult to get a mortgage based on his accounts figures. He is…

Libor Takes A Tumble 3.21%
At the start of last week the rate stood at 5.77%, so as a result of the 1.5% in base rates the Libor has gone down by 1.27%, giving lenders the chance to cut rates. The overnight Libor rate has now fallen to 3.21%. This should now allow the banks to borrow monies cheaply, and pass on reductions on interest direct to…

Mortgage Comparison Sites
I've been looking around for fixed rate deals and two comparison sites have pointed me to the Principality Building Society and a fantastic rate of 3.99%. Sadly when following links to their website the cheapest rate is over 5% so where do the comparison sites get this mythical rate from?

Cheshire SVR - Anyone else in same boat?
Hi all I'm on a discounted rate mortgage with them at the moment. Given like most banks/building societies they failed to pass on the earlier 0.5% cut, I'm especially annoyed that they seem to be dragging their heels at making a decision as to whether they pass last week's 1.5% through. Their SVR at the moment is 7.1%…

Urgent need for mortgage
Hi We nearly bought a house in July and at the time we had applied for a 3 year fixed rate mortgage at 6.38% with HSBC. It is fees free (no valuation costs either). The reason for choosing it was that we only borrow £25,000 and a lower percentage mortgage was going to cost too much in fees. Not worth it. We are now finally…
