Beware Tesco pet club card offer.
Just renewed my dogs insurance and have gone with Tesco via Compare the Market, I did notice on MSE advice on the matter that you can get £30 worth of club card points by using a specific link. Guess what, your quote jumps by £40 so not worth the bother as you end up out of pocket.

The Paw project UK
Hi. Has anyone adopted from here: https://thepawprojectuk.com/ We are wanting to adopt a dog, but not sure how legitimate they are? Has anyone got any experiences with them?

Pet Insurance - Policy change problems?
Hi, please excuse this long question ... I have a cat who is insured on a lifetime policy where any claims are per condition, not yearly spend. Sadly she has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour and needs an operation asap. The thing is, but not my main query, that I have used the allotted amount for this years…

What database to register microchip?
I need to register my cat with a database but there's so many out there I'm not sure which one to go for. Some have a one time signing fee, I've seen some with a subscription model. Any recommendations from some MSE pet owners?

Pet prescriptions long term medication
My dog is going to be 15 this year and has been on Propalin since age 11 and will be on it for the rest of her life - it helps stop bladder leak issues. My vet charges more for a 30ml bottle, than a 100ml bottle I can buy online. In order to get a prescription to buy the online product, I have to pay £26 for the…

Anyone used TrustedHousesitters website
Has anyone here used the above site? We are due to go away in a few months for a fortnight and until recently, an elderly relative looked after our dog at their house. I think we’ve decided it’ll be minimal disruption and stress for our aging dog if someone moves into our own house to sit for her while we are away. Kennels…

Advice about moving home with elderly blind cat
My oldest cat of 4 is 15 and has slowly gone blind with cataracts. I suspect she may also be starting with dementia as she is loudly meowing a lot more than usual. She has lived in this house since we got her at 8 weeks old apart from a few months she went missing as a young cat. Sadly I have to sell this house and its…

Pet Insurance - Penalised for being an existing customer
I've currently got Pet Insurance with Tesco and I've been with them since 2016. My cat is now 9years and 9months old and my dog is 4years and 2months old. I had my renewal quote in and it was £292 more expensive this year. I called them and they applied a 15% discount for each pet. This took it to a difference of £168 more…

Aquarium Filter / Cloudy Water solution?
Hi. I bought an aquarium (120L) in November and have used it for some minnows & cold water fish (approx 15 fish). Seems like no matter what I do, I cannot get the water to be clear. I have a Fluval U2 filter running. I've tried Aqua Pure Aquarium Crystals & Interpet Quick Clear Aquarium Treatment - both don't seem to make…

Insect based cat food
We're considering moving to an insect based dry food to reduce our cat's carbon footprint (I think we'd supplement it with some standard wet food, since insect based wet food doesn't seem to be a thing, yet). It's obviously more expensive, but it is within our 'pet budget' for the year. Has anyone tried it? How have you…

Show us your Christmas pet outfits
Do you get your pet kitted out festively? If so, I'd love to see a photo. Especially if it's a homemade outfit. Please remember not to share anything containing personally identifiable information, such as photos of your face. Here's one of the MSE pets modelling his hand-knitted hat.

How much do you pay for dog grooming?
Hi, Just wondering how much everyone is paying for their dog to be groomed. I’m in the north east and had prices anywhere from £20-40 for the same service (full groom/clip off on small dog). I assume the more expensive ones will be a better finish but I’m just curious to see what everyone else is paying. thanks in advance

Pet Insurance - Can Insurers Penalise Claims?
I switched my Petplan insurance for my 3yo cat to Napo 6
months ago, as the Petplan became expensive while Napo came highly rated
by Which.co.uk. Both insurances are Whole Life and relatively comprehensive
on coverage. He was perfectly healthy at the time of the switch, with no known
conditions (other than accidental…

Young cats always hungry
Hi all, We rescued two cats over the summer from a charity. We think they are about 18 and 24 months now, though charity couldn’t give us an exact age as they were found abandoned. Both are British shorthair, and the older one had had a litter of kittens if it makes any difference. We love them to bits but they are always…

Apoquel - any experiences?
Vet has today prescribed this for my dog who has been constantly scratching and licking his undercarriage so it is now very sore and inflamed. The dosage she has prescribed is 12mg twice per day, but he only weighs 22.5Kgs. Have looked on the website and it says 2 x 5.4mg tablets per day for that weight. Has anybody any…

Woman has taken back cat she abandoned
I posted a while back about this. We took in a pregnant cat that was abandoned, malnourished and with a 12 week kitten. We reported it to the vets, asked around, checked the microchip and was advised if nobody came forward we would need to keep her inside as she was due to give birth. She was starving and neighbours said…

20% of claim excess (at age 9+)... How does it work?
Hi folks I'm at renewal stage for my dog insurance with ManyPets. She's now 9+ years so the 20% of claim excess has kicked in. I'm just trying to get my head round it and wondered if anyone could tell me how it works please? With a £7,000 limit on the policy - and an example claim that racks up to £10,000 in total - would…

Pet insurance - timing of diagnosis, renewal, treatment
My mother has a 10-year old cat, insured with Coop since she got her as a rescue 6 years ago. She had a routine vaccination appointment on last Friday (27 October), and she asked the vet to look at the cat's teeth as she hadn't been eating all of her dry food in the previous couple of days (of course, she's back to…
