Screen has gone strange
Hi, my son came to me this morning with his HP laptop that's only about 2 months old from brand new. The screen is so bright he could hardly make out the mouse cursor. I've gone to brightness and reduced this but it still stays the same where its difficult to read the text or see the mouse cursor. I've taken a photo to…

Adding wireless to wired only device
Have a bit of hifi kit that supports certain internet features but only has an ethernet port and whilst the router is in the same large open plan room it's no way practical to run a cable to it. In our old place used to use power line adaptors but because of the odd setup that isn't practical any more. So what is the best…

Testing out musical AI engines
Wrote some lyrics for a mate of mine who's a composer a while back. We put the full score onto various musical collaboration websites but no joy, no-one was interested. Hence thought I'd try producing the track. However as no operatic trained mezzo-sopranos owed me any favours I've used an AI engine. I have no idea how…

Electric oven
When fitting my electric oven I've found that gas pipe leading to hob is stopping my oven from going back far enough, after taking the top off the oven I've found that there's a big enough void between casing and actual oven .would it work if I cut the top corner off the casing to enable it to fit .

Network ports
Hi all I've got some homeplugs in order to get a wired connection to another room (I've turned into an office/workroom). The "receiving" homeplug only has two ports, they are both in use and I could do with an extra port (possibly more). Can I plug in a network switch to the homeplug and then all devices into that? If it's…

PS4 problem
My son says his ps4 is lagging. Slowing him down that he is unable to play properly, he has autism so this doesn't go down well. I've had lots of checks and a WiFi booster from BT so it's not the WiFi. What could be causing it and is it fixable? Dreading having to get him anew console.

how do I pin to the top page of my phone?
2 things that I use frequently on my android phone are the calculator and the clock (timer and alarm). I can get to these reasonably easy by going into settings, all apps and then opening one or the other but it would be so much easier if I could pin them to the front page along with the other apps I have there - outlook,…

Burning CD/DVD options for an Android user
Research suggests there's no ability to burn disks on an Android device. My old Windows laptop is at the end of its life and I've come to prefer the simplicity of Android when using a tablet. Is there a way around this without going back to Windows? I've no experience using Apple devices and they're out of my price range.

Self Build PC
Hi, Looking at getting a new PC, I've tended to build my own but the cost savings nowadays seem to be less than they were just a few years ago. I like the look of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07798R425?tag=track-ecv-uk-308730-21&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1&ascsubtag=ecSEPfc1u83jlnuhk8we But I would want 2 TB SSD and…

Microsoft's Phone Link (Win10) no good after changing MS password & adding 2FA
Top & bottom if it is the thread title. Phone Link was working fine. It now doesn't 'see' my phone. It asks me to open a QR code & then scan it using the camera on my phone but when I do this it says Invalid QR code. How do I link up my phone with Windows 10? It was a pretty handy feature which I used fairly frequently…

Long term storage of Laptops
I have two laptops that I intend to keep for years (Decades ?) Simply to allow me to use CD's/DVD's The reason is that they are worth virtually zero in terms of £'s but one is "as new" (despite it being almost 10 years old) - the other is a high spec 5 year old i5 with a 1Tb SSD and 12Gb RAM - Yet is only valued at…
