Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Managed to get one set of door posts concreted-in on the new polytunnel yesterday, but woke to gale force winds and rain today, so no outdoor action yet, but blue sky approaches from the west.....Oh, hang on, rain is now battering on the office window!Checked out cardamom, lily, but it seems Wales is a little cool for them, so curry it is!
I've had rather a lot of curry lately, but at least my SiL now understands my non-veggy preferences. "It's OK, it's a chick pea base, but there are lots of prawns in there too!"
Out in the garden, I notice some plants that went over fast in mid-summer have returned to flowering, albeit modestly. I also saw a swallow two days ago, though ours departed well before the end of September. Snapped a few photos, but as they're still in the camera, here's another of MiL's dahlias:5 -
The dogs have the right idea and I've copied them today. Rain and freezing wind even though the sun has appeared so hunkering down and planning in my head.Farway sorry the gout is continuing. I've been stuck with whatever my leg problem is because I overdid it last week when it began to complain so working on though is obviously not an option.I did manage to mow the lawns one day and yesterday I dug out some raspberry canes because I let them run out of greed for more raspberries but the heat and dry saw a poor crop - and cleaned the bed for my baby veg plants. They look very sorry for themselves with the cold wind and rain. I've put sheeps wool around them but I can't see them surviving between the weather and the slugs.Oh and I potted up some Tete a Tete with some Dutch Iris for the spring. My neighbour gave me a thank you couple of packets of crocus so they went in too. She's beginning to show an interest in her garden with two avid gardening neighbours - and nice that she's gifting bulbs and seed.Hope the car was ok Woolsery.Beautiful photo of the fungi LL, I don't know what those are.
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Another nice dahlia Woolsery, that's my list for Father Christmas firmed up now, and next year will obviously now be Year of the Slug2P, Tete a Tete, so easy & cheerful come Spring, but I've never succeeded with Dutch Iris, the squirrels have them for breakfastThe gout is easing down to limping now, first outing today, but it's the Dentist so no gardening there, at least sun is out & looking like a pleasant dayAutumn really here now, my potted plum tree leaves have gone yellow within a week, should the weather hold & the gout allow could be a nice sunshine on yellow leaves photoThe large toms in pot outside at the front, some I have picked and are finishing off indoors, but with the warm weather of the last few days, despite the rain etc, more are colouring up. Giving me ideas for next year now but of course planning to grow toms there will be the kiss of death

Ah, the dentist, source of my Cytisus 'Porlock' seeds and some funny conversations. She drives a Type R....say no more!
I couldn't face getting the wheel balancing sorted yesterday in the wind & rain, so I took up valuable nice weather time doing it today. However, while in civilisation I bought more potting grit in bulk and a bag of very expensive Melcourt compost, just to see what that's like.
I also tracked-down 150mm nails for the polytunnel build and some special bolts we need, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
That just leaves DB's car. It's been in the garage about a week now because it kept telling lies, saying the doors were open when they weren't and developing an obstructive personality, including refusing to move or only moving with a warning beep activated. I groaned, because we avoided anything French to avoid electrical gremlins, but it turns out the problem is in the mechanical door mechanism and it's bits of metal the garage is waiting for. The bill's being paid by the vendor, fortunately.Looked at a few seeds whilewaiting for the car and saw "Mountain Magic," a tomato I might like to try next year. Saw the price for 6 (!) seeds and the packet went back on the stand!

Jeez is Mountain Magic rare is it? 6 seeds!
Also what does DB mean? "DB's car"....Right, and what are you going to do about it?0 -
We've a lovely warm dry wind here, but big rains forecast around lunchtime. My pots of bulbs are protected now, and squirrel is unhappy about that. He and his friend (wife?) attacked my bird feeder station thing and knocked it to the ground. He's a sore loser, I predict trouble....
To my bird total I can add a magpie. Just the one likeRight, and what are you going to do about it?3 -
Sunny with a stiff breeze, rain on way, due here later today once it's finished with Scotland and YB EyesDentist went OK, had a mini filling while I was there, no drilling, magic somehow, puffs of air, squirts of water, hairdryer thing, shone purple light in while assistant held amber filter over my eyes, toothy magic! And gout nearly gone as wellWoolsery, Mountain Magic, toms, yep, tried them, but mine were clearance bargain bucket in Garden Centre offer at 50P. However, I was not impressed and very glad I'd only spent 50p to find that out. One reason I buy the on offer ones to try when availableI suspect I'm looking for the impossible tomato, and my cultivation methods are not ideal at all times, which is why I like the Balcony Yellow, it just works for me.Hope your car bits are not in same category as my DDs, French van, waited months for some electrical part without which van would not go. Luckily, hers is leased, so the dealer stumped up a loan van for the period.2

Also what does DB mean? "DB's car"....It's looking hard to come by currently, but all this season's seeds may not have reached the suppliers yet.DB = Dearly Beloved as in "Dearly beloved, we are gathered together..." etc. Words some of us remember with varying degrees of affection....a very high degree in my case, obviously!Yesterday afternoon I decided the more unkempt areas of grass needed very urgent attention, so I attacked them until dusk . They're growing just like it's April.I came indoors to find a Rightmove notification telling me the new owners of the thatched cottage with all the signage telling people to slow down are on the market at £90k more than the previous ones began their longish sale process. They've even pinched some of the previous owners' pictures for the ad! Apart from the new kitchen, installed without listed buildings consent, they've done nothing except paint to the house and precious little to the garden beyond getting contractors to remove some trees. They must really hate it here and they've not had winter yet!The joys of country living, eh?

Ah Dearly Beloved, I couldn’t work it out. I’ve figured out Other Half, Son in Law, Darling Daughter/Son etc but all I came up with for B was brother 🙄
I got my bird feeder back up (lashed it to the fence with twine), and squirrels watched me do it. As soon as I was inside they went for it. I couldn’t get a good picture for the rain on the kitchen window but here one of them is :
Right, and what are you going to do about it?4 -
And what a bladdy cheek using the previous photos! I’d not be impressed with that 🤨Right, and what are you going to do about it?1
