Misread Chromebook cashback conditions

Hi all - kicking myself here, I bought a Chromebook laptop from Currys due to the £35 cashback offer.

I misread the conditions and thought you needed to enrol 14 days after purchase, but now I’ve just gone to do it I realise it said within 14 days of purchase. I’m about a week out.

Any tips or advice on how to get around it? Maybe they won’t notice?!

You can only try but they have no obligation to honour it.

I used to work for a company that administered this type of scheme, and the way they make money is by people forgetting to claim, or not fulfilling all the T&Cs it’s very unlikely they won’t notice, and there won’t be anyway round it.

We had letters detailing all sorts of reasons why the person claiming the offer hadn’t been able to meet the conditions, and not once did we pay out if the T&Cs were not met.

Sorry I know it’s not what you want to hear.

It's basically just a sales promotion. Because of the cashback offer, they hope you'll buy the item from them instead of someone else. If you remember to claim the cashback then fair enough, they've made £35 less profit than they would have (but you can bet they're still making a profit). If you forget to claim, that's just extra profit for them. For such a relatively small amount of money, it's worth (potentially) taking a small hit on the profit margin if that leads to increased sales volumes.

It would be far easier (for the customer) if they just knocked £35 off the retail price in the first place, for everyone. But for everyone that forgets to claim the cashback, that's a bit of extra profit for them.

Exactly as Ebe has said, and yes a lot of people forget to claim the cash back, or if they do, they don’t fulfil all the conditions and the cash back claim is rejected.
