My head knows that Martin is right in his judgement to just do nothing. My supplier went kaput & I got moved to British Gas unfortunately but I am struggling to keep my hands off the search for a deal button as I would normally do. I think I will sit here until April when the new SVR comes out & I'll see what is best then. I have already had a 60% increase in DD when my old one was well on track for end of year zero. Definitely not looking forward to April!
Yep - this is where my frustration comes in. I'm so used to being able to react and "do something" when energy prices start to feel a bit too high, it's annoying knowing that right now, I just can't! I do trust Martin's judgement in terms of what is best to do though!

Feeling a bit gloomy today 🙄 no real reason, had a perfectly acceptable day working and a nice little excursion this evening, but just feeling a bit ragged round the edges and quite anxious about everything tonight 🙄
Small bit of house progress today though - the geezer came round to measure up for the bedroom carpet. I've paid a deposit, and someone else rang me to book in a slot, but I was in a meeting and didn't get out til after they'd shut - will ring in the morning. Should be within 3 weeks he said, so that gives a nice deadline to get all the painting finished and skirting board oiled.
No progress on windowsills 🙄 I sent messages to 3 relatively local places at the weekend - one replied saying they just supply and we'd need our own tradespeople to fit, so they're no good. The other two didn't reply at all! Will keep going, and have the backup of doing it ourselves.
Miserable news of the day is the announcement of the poultry housing order 😢😢 Clearly this is going to become an annual thing now, and it's just completely crap. Last year it was mid- December until 1st April that they were shut in. This year it's starting on Monday 29th Nov, so we get 5 days notice.
Our new girls haven't even been outside the run yet 😢😢 I was hoping we'd have a good couple of weeks to get them all settled in before they were all shut in together but apparently not.
At least we've got the extension, which fully meets restrictions and is safe from predators (last year we just had a temporary extension which would have taken a fox 5 mins to get in, so they had to be shut in the main run when we were out all day). So that's something. And we have all the materials to build the extension on the extension... so just need to get on with that 🙄
That's all making me more anxious than anything tonight. It just feels so mean to have them shut in for so damn long. Most people round here didn't shut theirs in at all last year which made me even more sad for ours 😢😢
Sorry to hear that poultry lockdown is kicking in again - poor things, although particularly the new ones of course will STILL think they're in chicken heaven anyway after what they came from! I agree that it feels worse when others simply don't bother taking any notice of the rules too - although I could also be talking about human lockdown there I guess!
Hopefully you're feeling a bit more cheerful this morning anyway - sounds like great news to have a sensible deadline to work to on the carpet as well, SO exciting that things are really starting to come to a conclusion!
Remember to stop and breathe won't you - you do still have a lot of stuff you're juggling!

Feel like I'll stop and breathe once everyone's gone - well, probably Christmas at this rate, got a fortnight off and very much looking forward to it (although actually work is the least stressful thing at the minute, just busy).
So, a flurry of phone calls this afternoon.
Carpet fitters are coming on Thursday morning, sooner than I thought but very welcome!
Kitchen geezers are coming for an hour on Saturday morning to fit the back of the cupboards under the breakfast bar (not entirely sure why they didn't bring that last time but hey ho).
Granite is coming Monday, and kitchen fitters will be there to fit appliances, doors, etc as well - that will roll into Tuesday, but hopefully not any longer than that.
At some point the electrician will have to come back to attach the hob etc but I don't have a date yet - haven't heard back from the builder since I told him I wanted a detailed invoice, from him, plus one for the electrician before I gave him a lump of cash!
Messed up money juggling a little, and have only just requested dosh from the premium bonds account but hopefully it will still be with us on Tuesday. Got enough to pay the builder so I'll do that tonight. Kitchen geezers want the granite money on Monday and cleared on Tuesday (should have asked for it earlier then!) But hopefully it'll be with me Tuesday and I can do an instant transfer.
I've requested enough from the premium bonds account to pay the final kitchen invoice, but I've just realised I'll need to request a bit more to pay the electrician 🙄 And then I think the only thing left is the kitchen fitting - I'm hoping that's included in the builder's costs - it was in their original invoice, but they've not ended up actually fitting it, so I suspect that will be an extra cost for the kitchen fitters. I was hoping that can wait til after the premium bonds draw on Tuesday, but actually I may just withdraw enough so I've got everything and can get them all out of my hair by the end of next week.
Very much looking forward to it all being over, and being able to properly take stock of money once the flow out has stopped... premium bonds account is looking VERY dire 😕 suspect there won't be a win this month for us...
I don't suppose it works to use the money you have already withdrawn ready to pay (you said the builder?) to sort out the Kitchen geezers granite bill is it? No idea if the amounts tally, but after the way you've been mucked about and are still waiting for the breakdown for the builder, I'd suggest you could smile sweetly when he does finally give you the breakdown and tell him that it'll just be a couple of days while you get the money transferred....and that might take you past the draw date? If he can afford to keep you waiting several days for an itemised breakdown that he must have expected to be asked for anyway, I'd say he could also wait a few days for his money too...
This is very much feeling like the closing stretch for the "real" upheaval though I hope? It sounds like it, from here!

Definitely is feeling like the closing stretch! Can't believe how much I just want EVERYONE OUT OF MY HOUSE now 😂 It's quite ridiculous. After Tuesday we'll just have the electrician for a day (to attach the oven, and sort a couple of plugs and a light switch), and the builder back for a final visit to put inhibitor in the central heating and do a final check, and then that's IT!
Well, that's us doing all the painting and attaching the skirting boards, and 87 trips to the tip and sorting all the rooms back out, but it's just US - no separate builder kettle, no key left outside, no phone calls, emails, demands for payment, no difficult conversations, no wishing we'd just got on and done it ourselves 😁😁😁 Can't wait!
Yes, at the minute I've got enough to pay either the builder or the granite (JUST) but not both. I think I'll just ignore all of them til Tuesday and hope it arrives by then. I don't think the builder will chase without sending an itemised invoice anyway now I've asked for one, so if I've not had that by Tuesday, I'll just pay the granite people, and the builder can wait til Wednesday morning. If he sends that over the weekend, the granite bloke will have to wait a day 🙄
I really hope you get your house back soon! We're having some work done which means electrician and joiner here whilst I'm at work and plasterer here in the evening (all in one day) and I already can't wait for it to be over!

It really does sound as if you have light at the end of the tunnel as far as the work on the house is concerned
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.
Definitely feels like we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just hoping it's not an oncoming train! 😮😂😂
