Does anyone have any recommendations for a good steam mop? I absolutely hate mopping the kitchen floor thought I might try out a steam mop….
Not a recommendation but one to avoid, we’ve had 3 H20 steam mops and each one has broken in the same place, replacement parts are quite expensive and their customer services weren’t particularly interested in resolving the recurrent issue. So I’m also looking for a recommendation of a decent one.
Hi all, this morning I realised that my MOT is due in 6 days. Due to all the kerfuffle last year it's not at it's normal date, so I spent a stupid amount of time this morning trying to find a garage to book it in. After several that couldn't fit me in for a fortnight I managed to sort it for friday morning. I am not expecting it to fail but you just never know with these things. This afternoon I made a few phone calls including to my phone and internet provider. It turns out the man who knocked on my door yesterday was right in that we have had a superfast connection installed in the area and I can indeed get a faster internet, however I am apparently tied into a contract until June next year, no idea how that happened but I suspect it has something to do with televised football matches. Anyhow I can upgrade for an increased amount but I can't get a reduction for not having it. I explained I was looking to reduce my bills not increase them and the nice lady said call back next March to start the negotiations I have put a reminder on my phone I have also booked the chimney sweep, spoken to the local planning office for some advice about a neighbour who told me they were having their conservatory rebuilt but it is actually an extension. This might sound mean but it is quite large and high and is blocking the light into my conservatory and the back of my house but there is nothing to be done. I didn't want to cause trouble really but I thought there might be something I could ask the builder to do to mitigate it but I don't think there is so I shall just have to eat more carrots . I have also tracked down a business that I can give some elecrical things to that don't work as they refurbish/repair them so this will save them from the tip. I watched a program about built in obsolescence the other day and it confirmed my suspicions that things are indeed built not to last and are very difficult if not impossible to repair so I am hoping this will help buck the trend. I will try to drop them off tomorrow. I called into a charity shop on my way home from the garage and spotted a beautiful red leather handbag for £8, but I resisted as I don't really need it I just really wanted it I am learning Sorry for the long ramble Off to bed now, take care everyone
1. KITCHEN WILL CONTINUE TO BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT
2. JUST DO ONE THING EVERY DAY (courtesy of bit_by_bit) OTHER THAN DAY TO DAY CLEANING & DECLUTTERING
3. ONCE A WEEK LEAVE THE HOUSE (e.g. Go into city centre for bank & butcher; go to local town for cs dropping off or buying; visit the pub with DH 😉
4. CLEAN & EMPTY SURFACE AREAS - DAILY
Tuesday was mainly dry, occasionally very windy & quite warm. Heavy rain started about 2 hours ago ☹️ DH went out to get window sealant & small sm shop - bread, vinegar & crumpets 😉 DH has now re-sealed the windows & we moved the bed so DH can finish painting the ceiling & the last wall. DSis went out to surgery (40mins), pharmacy (30 mins) & a visit to As*a for personal food shopping. My frog for the day was making a small batch of green tomato chutney - 4 jars (hence the need for vinegar 😉) My neighbour finally taste tested the beetroot chutney - a success - so gave him a full jar with an instruction to share with his wife 😉 I made mushroom risotto for dinner & very tasty it was 🤤 Small portion lo as a snack for tomorrow - we might hav to fight over it 😉😉 Wudupa.
vulpix, I quite agree that as long as we keep posting it is a positive step to decluttering 🙂 Shame that the shed declutter has been postponed ☹️ However you have still had a successful day 👏 especially the culling of bedroom wall items 👏 I was just going to bed as you were getting up 😔 Great work on the decluttering 👏 Hope you managed a decent night’s sleep 🤞🙂
Well done on decluttering admin frogs, TC77 👏
Excellent work Liverpool_Anne 👏 Completing a major frog is worth celebrating 🥳 & fingers crossed 🤞 that it goes through quickly & without incident 🤞 My inclination would be ‘scam’ of some description 🤔 but hopefully a phone call will put your mind at rest 🤞 A timely reminder from Siebrie that every little helps in our quest to declutter 👏 You have been busy Liverpool_Anne 👏 Pleased that it appears the chap was not a scammer but still odd & a bit unsettling 🤔 As to your neighbour what an inconsiderate……….. (insert appropriate word) I was under the impression that we had some sort of ‘right to light’ but am obviously mistaken ☹️ Your reference to carrots reminds me that I should check if we have any hg carrots🤞or if it is just the carrot tops. One medal 🏅 coming your way for resisting the CS temptation 👏
Good luck with the bag of stuff TheMsTeale 🤞Oh dear 😔 but well done on the shredding 👏
Now that is what I call organisation ruby_eskimo 👏😉 A spreadsheet & lists - can you organise me as well? 😉
Welcome back D123456789 👋 You have been very busy 👏 Is LO enjoying school? & did you increase or decrease your hours? Enquiring minds want to know - oh OK probably just me being nosy 🧐😉 Your generosity knows no bounds - storing items, donating clothes & storage boxes + discovering even more baby items to donate 👏 In addition to keeping up with day to day cleaning & tidying + working👏 One Gold Star ⭐️ on its way 🙂
Great work Wednesday2000 👏 Was your podcast about cleaning 😉😉 I think there are ‘Clutter Gremlins’ that come in the dead of night to hide stuff in our homes 😂
Sounds wonderful short_bird 👏 I was lucky enough to win a Company Award (called MAD - Making a Difference) for raising funds for charity. A £1,000 donation to my chosen charity, a paperweight & the chance to use the company box at the Royal Opera House. My DH & I went to see La Traviata - had an absolutely wonderful time & all it cost us was the price of a couple of drinks 🙂 We even dressed up 😉
What a great result Rootle 👏 not having to hire a separate skip 🙂
Great work EnergyShifter 👏
Well you gave them plenty of chances StickyTheStickInsect 😔 Wishing both you & D123456789 success in finding a good steam mop 🤞

I love a list Mrs SD, just have a problem with actually getting stuff done 😆
Made a start with cleaning last night - got on top of the washing up last night and cleaned down the kitchen ready for a new day and then this morning I've put one load of laundry on already before starting work. Hope everyone has a good day.

Shortbird - Hope you enjoy / enjoyed the opera. Weirdly I saw Satyagraha many years ago in Leeds in 1998 when Leeds Youth Opera did it. At the time we thought it was the UK premier - but it looks like they may have been beaten to that by an another amateur performance the previous year. One of those random things that I got invited to as a group of students from the science department were going as a fellow student was in it. As I had heard Philip Glass before I probably had more idea of what to expect than most of the others!!!!
With no knowledge of the plot, no program (impoverished student!), lyrics in sanscrit and not all the scenes not being chronological I found it a bit difficult to follow (I don't remember there being any english subtitles). If you haven't already been / seen it before I'd definitely recommend reading the synopsis before going (obviously if you usually buy the program when going to the opera then you will have it). It should be easier to follow at ENO as I am sure they will have english subtitles. I can assure you that there are some very scruffy individuals occasionally to be seen in the ENO's cheap seats but OH and I won't be there the evening you are so the standard will be much higher!!!!! We don't get to ENO very often as it is rather a trek for us - opera North is our closest.

Hi, a very good sleep last night so no excuses today.
I am a night owl Mrs SD but I think you are a dawn owl! I would love to go to the opera. I know nothing about it and have felt for a few years that I should. Not done anything about it though! I thought the same about jazz, dipped my toe and decided it wasn't for me .Bloomin well done on your award from work. What a applaudable thing to get an award for.
So... what shall I do today? Change the bed, finish the drawers with liners and knobs, tidy round (doesn't take long when the house is tiny) and if it stops raining get out in the garden for 10 minutes to put some plants in and plant up bulbs. Also need to shove the pics I have taken out of the bedroom into the shed to await their fate.
Frog list
* Shorten the door curtain
*Try to get splash of emulsion off exposed brick chimney breast, previous splash, not mine
* sew these bloomin Halloween bags
*make a flu jab appointment
* put replacement handles on a piece of furniture that I bought months ago
I could do all these today ,but will I ?
Nothing decluttered with the exception of everyday recycling but I am thinking about the next round of sorting. I am enjoying the clear house. I still keep looking in the spare room for pleasure ! I have taken a cushion away as it doesn't need a cushion in there.

God, no, the podcast wasn't about cleaning. Lol.
