1. Click "Search" icon, put your search term (in quotes) in the box & click "Search" (same as before) 2. Click on "Discussions" button (options on RHS will appear) 3. Click on "Category" and scroll down and select "Competitions Time" 4. Click to select "Search Subcategories" 5. Click to deselect "Polls" 6. Click on "Sort By" and select "Newest"
TIPS:
1) After my first search of the day I leave it open in a tab. When I need to search again I just have to edit the search term and click on the "Search" button
2) Don't use the URL as a search term because search does not find anything behind a "clicky" link.
3) Good things to search for are: a) The answer b) A phrase from the question c) The Prize d) For text comps use the 5-digit text number e) For postal comps use the postcode
That works really well, thanks @One-Eye. Just a pity we can't bookmark the page after setting all that up, so we could just go straight there and enter the relevant search word. Then the only thing that would make it absolutely brilliant is if the Entered/Skipped were viewable and clickable from there.
EDIT: in fact I just bookmarked the full set-up and then opened it up again and it has SAVED in full

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year
I love you all but when I read this I get tummy ache. Why cannot we have a search button that does the job without so much back and forth? It is just a search. The same for the tick/cross buttons. what security gets so threaten that we cannot go back to leave "that one out for the time being" if you decide ? I'm sure the World is going to implode and yes I remember that it is an honor to be in this group or whatever they wrote once...

Yes @marialionza , the world will surely implode. The pumps have been, are, empty.
The shelves are empty. No blood test bottles. Gas????.
I've just had a thought, try my bookmarked page above and if it shows only (MD) posts below please bookmark it and use it for your searches, just change the (MD) in the search field (but leave the "at each end of the search. GL

@MSE_James said re search, it's better. i.e fixed. Sept 2021.
Is it still broken?
It is not "broken" - thankfully it has been reliable and consistent since the latest refresh, and it can find exactly what you want if you use it carefully.
It is however, far from ideal. The worst problem is how unwieldy it is for a user - needing six steps to program it for a normal search (see HERE). By far the best work around is to bookmark a standard search and just amend the search term (as described by cornishpasty1 a couple of posts earlier).
There are a few more things that search doesn't handle well which are less critical but still important:
Failure to use exact specific search term (see HERE)
Problem searching URLs (explicit HERE, implicit HERE)
...and there are several minor annoyances as well.

It's an interesting question, as to whether it is/isn't broken. For me it was as good as broken until today. At last I can use the thing now because of your brill step-by-step format, combined with Cornish's link.
For me, the main issue is that not everyone will see your your post about it, and I doubt that many who don't will work out for themselves how to use it effectively, as you managed to suss.
I posted on Site Feedback on the 8th to ask MSE for an update, but have had no response from them, yet. I wish we knew if this is going to be as good as it will get, or whether they are still working on it.
