Slightly calmed down today though, which is good, as I had to actually get things done, and it was difficult yesterday
So. Building progress. All the pipes in the attic are 15mm, and some of them should be 22mm, which probably explains why the side of the house with my study in it is so blinkin cold. So they're being changed. They were trying to suggest a complete revamp of the loft space, changing insulation etc, but we did put a stop to that - this is a massive project for us, and with houses like this there's an almost endless list of extra things that could be done - but if we go down that road we're going to rapidly become very overwhelmed and run out of money...
They've started putting in the struts to board one of the bedroom walls, quite a faff as it's quite wonky, but this will at least cover up some pipes (although Mr Cheery is already missing the wonkiness...) Had to make some decisions about radiators etc.
In financial news, we've had the first invoice - expected as per original discussion/T&Cs once they were on site and buying stuff. I've seen some places say don't pay anything til it's over, but that seems like quite a risk for them, and this way feels like we're sharing the risk a bit (we've already given them a door key and left them on their own here so I feel like if they wanted to rob us it would be only too easy!)
Anyway, transferred that dosh from Premium Bonds (pah) which should be with us on 31st. If I'd had any sense I would have left it til after the next draw - in my mind we were further away from the end of the month, but actually we won't get the money til 31st anyway, and there are no big outgoings til after then, so we could have managed. Hey ho, it's done now.
In other financial news - had the details of the expenses claim for taking part in the brain scanning study, we're getting £84.15 for mileage, which is great. I know I spent some of that on diesel, but I budgeted for that as a day out with my friend, so this feels like extra, so is going into the kitchen pot when it arrives. Also Mr Cheery got paid for a gig he did the other night, so that can go in the pot too. I'll add those once I've transferred them over.
In less good financial news, we went out for tea Partly to celebrate my funding bid and partly just because it's a little trying on the nerves having builders in and we're trying to do whatever we need to do to stay sane. So pizza it was. We did share one though, and brought some of the garlic bread home for tomorrow, so not too bad.
Had a text to say I've got some free spins on the Happy Wheel as well, so I'll go and do those now - might win a fortune, you never know!
Little moments of relief from the stress of life are important so the cost of an occasional tea out is priceless in terms of sanity. We have a 'Fun Money' budget each month for exactly that. Having a budget is like having permission to live a little without any money saving angst.
