Once again I am reminded of the benefit of a tiny home with only 5 rooms (and yes, I'm also including the hallway) 🤣!
Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016) Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Yes there certainly are benefits of a smaller home! 😂 and today I can definitely understand the benefits of minimalism... 🙄😂
Anyway, list abandoned. I've sorted and tidied and cleaned the living room, temporary kitchen, hall and bathroom, and done several days worth of washing up 🙄
Everywhere else is a tip 😂 but it's a good start to tomorrow's list 😂
Stopping now to make myself some pancakes as a reward 😁
Just counted 😂 and our house had 11 rooms (not including the hallway, which is really just a landing) when we bought it. After knocking down walls there are now only 9, but obviously that didn't actually make the house any smaller 😂 We've only really had 7 for the last 2 years, so gaining another 2 after this building work (especially as they're by far the biggest 2, having previously been 4) is going to make a huge difference, and will hopefully make everywhere else a bit less cluttered!
I'm glad you abandoned the list for the evening, Cheery - if you've got some time alone in the house, you surely don't want to be just using it for housework! Enjoy it all and enjoy the report of the gig, that's great that Mr Cheery has one.
Downsized and paid off mortgage 2010 Retired August 2016 Paid off French mortgage September 2018 New kitchen fully installed June 2019 Not counting this! 2020 Garden fencing completed, woohoo 2021.......... October 2021: aiming for £5,000 new money for premium bonds or a car.
Yes it's very exciting, although daunting for several reasons. It's a wedding apparently, so I never get much of a report ('it was just a wedding' usually), but I do sometimes get a bit of leftover cake
I'm having a nice time sat with my hot water bottle, sorting photos and writing a blog post, with the Happy Wheel spinning in the background, listening to Sounds of the Seventies Most jolly!
Nothing much else to report. Went swimming this morning, so that's FIVE trips to the gym this month, meaning each has cost £7. I'm not likely to get up to 12 by the end of August, which was my plan, but I can hopefully get in a few more. I'm mostly being thwarted by the booking system - things get booked up straight away, although as I'm finding with the swimming, most of the booked people don't actually go - there were 3 of us in our 'fully booked lane this morning (it's a double lane and can apparently take 10).
Anyway, home now. Did some MB - lost £15 over today and yesterday 🙄😂
Going to have a shower (and hope the boiler isn't playing up) then...
* hoover new bedroom * hang washing up inside * 20 mins moving stuff out of kitchen * 10 mins in offshot * 10 mins in study * 10 mins in bedroom
We're leaving at 3 for a friend's birthday do sohopefully time for a bit of a sit down before then.
Hey Cheery, I hope you managed to get all of your tidying done before the party, and I hope you had a lovely time. Is it tomorrow the builder people come?
We got enough tidying done before the party, thank you!
And yes, today is the day the builders have arrived, exciting and a bit daunting.
Also first day back at work - and remember that funding bid? We got it! 😮😮😮 Extremely excited but lots to do, and I confess my head is NOT a calm place to be today 😂😂
Does stuff have to be done today or can it wait until you’ve slept and recovered from the news? I appreciate that with builders around tomorrow might not be much better, but you’re dealing with a lot of change/excitement today and it might be easier to focus tomorrow (or not if demolition is underway…)

Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!
