I have found a very soothing drink for colds, sore throats and those days when you just feel grotty. Belvoir Ginger & lemon Cordial with hot waterb. It,s about £3 a bottle but you dilute it strongly and can get up to 24 drinks from one bottle. Saves needing fresh lemons and ginger roots if you're in a winter lockdown or storecupboard bare patch. The cordial is also delicious for adding a splash to stewed fruit to eat with breakfast porridge or a dessert. Belvoir manufacture a wide range of other interesting flavours . Worth checking out their website. We got ours from Waitrose but think Sainsbury,s and other supermarkets stock them too.

Lockdown and potential Brexit problems have recently merged, and combine that with bad weather or illness I am sure we will all have periods during the coming winter where we are housebound. I just wanted to share a missing prep in my own household recently, and it was as simple as a light bulb! So used are we now to these long-life bulbs and because they can be expensive, it's easy to forget to replace all the various permutations - i.e. screw in, bayonet, pearl, clear, etc. etc. I am going to have an audit of the bulbs in current use (pun unintended) and will ensure I have a spare of each one, as it could be dangerous to be without during the dark times ahead.

Thanks. That has reminded me I need to check a couple of mine. Think it is those nasty little things in kitchen spotlights that I murder while trying to get them in. Live and learn, eh!

Lightbulbs are such a minefield. I agree with the environmental aspect but after a few years of getting used to the different ones the choice became too great. I've spent a lot of time weighing up which will work in my light fittings especially the ceiling ones with 3 bulbs some candle others gof ball.

What looked ok often didn't work. I bought up a load of my usual ones in the supermarkets when they were selling them off at very low prices and all was ok. The stash is now just candles . I found Wilko were stocking the replacements for the golf bulbs and all was well. They phased those out so it's back to searching.

Does anyone remember the energy companies sending out energy saving bulbs to customers prior to the change? It was a long time ago but mine has been in the landing light ever since,the other was in the hall but needed replacing a few years ago. They took time to get to full brightness but were the first version. I've probably damned the one on the landing now but I'd like less choice just ones suitable for various fittings rather than searching every brand , type etc.

I hated all of them. Couldn't see a bloody thing! I'm not all that keen on falling down the stairs and breaking my neck to save the planet actually.

They were never going to be as bright as the old incandescent one's Mar.The ones I have now are ok. It's the faffing tracking the right ones down when they keep changing what they stock that's annoying.

We didn't have all that choice in the past just 40,60 or 100w. No different shapes , they were a light bulb. Nowadays there are Halogen, LED and other options which will be all the different stuff in kitchens etc. I didn't go to Halogen lights. I do have some replacements for the one in the cooker hood but other than that the only thing that sort of impressed me was the introduction of opaque bulbs.

I remember the lights didn't seem as bright as the older ones but I think they've improved a lot and I don't notice a difference until it's time to track down replacements.

Just hoping I haven't cursed the one on the landing. No idea who designed these houses but the landing light is above the first two steps down the staircase and in the past either dd1 or son has done a dodgy balancing act on the rail along the landing., Son doesn't do heights so often dd1 had to take over.

He's only ventured into the loft once, panicked and ended up sitting with his legs hanging down until his sister got home from college and got him down.

I may be the one tumbling down down the stairs and breaking my neck if the bulb gives up. mind you there are lot of torches and lanterns here I may have to resort to them. Thank goodness for prepping.

You may be glad of them at some point I've just read about a possible second wave and Brexit combo. Nothing is leaving this house!

It's the bottom of a whole draws worth in the kitchen I've got, they also use to put them in the freebie backs at eco events.
