I'm being refused a refund for an online purchase

I bought some resistance bands online (thick piece of elastic used in workouts) in two different grades (medium and heavy) so I could see which ones I needed, with a view to returning the ones that weren't right for me. I carefully unpacked the items, stretched them between my hands and repacked the ones I didn't want with a view to returning them. They are as new. The company says they do not accept returns unless an item has been incorrectly delivered. I've contacted them and they just keep saying that they don't take returns (one time quoted 'But in the current situation and the epidemic due to hygiene reasons. We are unable to refund any items.'). This can't be right!
Any thoughts about how I can return my items and receive a refund?
Many thanks.

I suppose they could claim it's exempt and would take a court to say otherwise.
A link to the company and product would see what the company say about them.
If its the medium, I would keep the heavy one as you will soon need that one.
