If I grow enough tomatoes, I’d like to try bottling home-made tomato sauce. It won’t happen this year - despite growing five tomatoes, I reckon I’ll get fewer than last year’s haul from one plant.

This week feels like I’ve been running to catch up. I’ve just spent 2.5 hours making Rose Hip Jelly, after processing the hips in two batches. (I froze the juice from the first batch for a couple of weeks and did the second batch on Monday.). 2.5 litres of juice and 1.9kg of caster sugar plus a huge amount of stirring later...and this is the result:-
As usual, I’m worrying that the damn stuff won’t set. However, as advised by my “Jam Aunties” here on MSE, I boiled it all for over 10 minutes before testing for set AND I used my sugar thermometer, with it’s jam marking (which it took forever to reach). I’m certain that cooled jelly was set on the side of the preserving pan (aka my pressure cooker) before I washed it up, but I still worry. This is only the 7th or 8th time I’ve ever made jam or jelly.

Tomorrow, I'll bung in a bottle of Certo just in case, reboil it and try again.
< sigh >
