Money Savers Arms

Last ooorders!… We’re sorry but for now, due to resources, we need to close the Money Savers Arms including Discussion Time.

It’s not easy to write this. We love the forum, but we also have a job to do to protect it, our users and MoneySavingExpert, and at the moment, with all our resources focused on Coronavirus information, and all the team at home, we don’t feel we have the resources to do a good enough job.

For four months, we’ve been struggling to cope with the huge volumes of messages we’ve been getting from Forumites – many of whom are in desperate and dire straits with their finances. The team have been working all hours to try and keep on top of it. At first we thought it’d be a short sharp spike, but it isn’t, it’s continuing, so we have had some difficult choices to make about prioritisation.

Unfortunately in, and likely because of, these stressful times, the Forum team have also been receiving an increasing number of complaints about posts made on the Money Savers Arms and Discussion Time. The team have done what they can to try and walk the tightrope of balancing all the various interests, but for now we need to draw a line under this and temporarily close this Board, so we can keep the key, MoneySaving boards – where people are supporting each other through this crisis - running smoothly.

We know this board is important to you, but as the MSE stance has been forbearance throughout this crisis, now we ask that of you. We’re sorry. Of course you can post on other boards, but we’d ask you to stick to the subjects of those boards, and not use them as a surrogate Money Savers Arms or Discussion Time. And as always please be kind and friendly to each other, especially any newbies.

Thanks
MSE Forum Team

Got to shell out £1,000 for dental treatment this afternoon. Having had an abscess a few months ago, my current dentist discovered that the previous practice I attended left 1/4 live root having done root canal work, so now have to have specialist treatment :(

Seeing adverts for Taylors coffee bags on the TV with the strap line "Why did nobody think of it before?"

They did. They have been around for donkeys' years. I used to buy Lyons ones back in the early 1980's.

Yes I remember them way back too. Can't remember if they were Lyons or not, but I wasn't that keen.
Mate of mine at work would always have a bottle of "Camp Coffee" I got quite a taste for the occasional cup of that.

Banks that have stopped putting the sort code and account number on the bank card. Wanted to set up a membership via direct debit while I was away and couldn't because Nat "the helpful bank" West is apparently the only bank that no longer does this. And no I don't have the app on my phone as their security does not inspire me with confidence.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

^ One (and probably the only) advantage of having the same bank account for 34 years is that I can remember the account number and sort code :)
  • Nobody will employ me.

I'll have to work for myself again (kicks the dirt & scuffs toe).

Marks & Spencer turned me down! Okay I came 2nd but what use is that?
Err hello... you employed that Philip Green bloke! I'm a cleaner love, it's not like I'm gonna run off with everybody's pensions!

Natwest have never (or at least not in the past 20 years) put the account number on their debit cards, I don't know about now but in the late 90s/early 00s they were the only uk bank who didn't.

I know this as at the time I used to process loan applications and 2 pieces of information we needed off every customer were sort code and acoount number which made Natwest a major PITA, even worse was when you got a particularly thick Natwest account holder who absolutely refused to accept that the 16 digit card number was not their account number.
