How much tobacco can I take into the USA?

Hi there.
Have Googled this, come across conflicting and incredulous-sounding information, so I will ask on here: how much tobacco can you take into the USA as a non-US citizen?
Have found one page that suggests up to 2kg but that sounds a hell of a lot given I can only legally bring 250g back the other way with me!

E.G. Australia only allows 1 pack of 25 cigarettes or 25g of tobacco.

I went to the states a few years ago and wanted to bring some souvenir bullet casings home (via Atlanta and the Carribean) after visiting a gun range.

Think you mean the CBP Customs and Border Protection.
TSA (transport Security Administration) are the airport security screening people they have nothing to do with importing of goods. if you were just flying in with no connecting flights you would have no contact with them.
Well the TSA have predictably pointed me in their direction on Twitter but the CBP haven't replied, so I am still none the wiser.
